My thought behind it is shared with many others. Johnson has no chance at winning whatsoever, so why "throw" a vote?

It feels wrong saying that, but ultimately it's true.

Because it shows how many people are unsatisfied with the 2 candidates if more people voted Libertarian if they didn't really like either one. Plus if more and more people vote Libertarian, then maybe some day in the future they will become a legit 3rd party powerhouse like the Dems and Repubs.

If Johnson gets 5% of the vote his party will get significant election funds in 2016 and Gary will be entrenched as the libertarian candidate for years.

also, libertarian votes push the 'pubs toward a more secular, less insane iteration of conservativism... more along the lines of what used to exist (sorta.)

I will continue to vote 3rd party until there is a viable one, hopefully this happens in my lifetime. I've done this since the 90s. Never straight ticket though, usually just POTUS.
