Someone was going to do it anyway:

http://www.washingto...3684_story.html

For the chairman and chief executive of Murray Energy, an Ohio-based coal company, the reelection of President Obama was no cause for celebration. It was a time for prayer – and layoffs.
Robert E. Murray read a prayer to a group of company staff members on the day after the election, lamenting the direction of the country and asking: “Lord, please forgive me and anyone with me in Murray Energy Corp. for the decisions that we are now forced to make to preserve the very existence of any of the enterprises that you have helped us build.”
On Wednesday, Murray also laid off 54 people at American Coal, one of his subsidiary companies, and 102 at Utah American Energy, blaming a “war on coal” by the administration of President Barack Obama.”

Counter argument du jour is that natural gas prices are bottoming out due to fracking and coal powered generators are falling out of favor due to shrinking demand:

His company donated 1.4 million to Romney. Wonder if he could have avoided 1 or 2 of those layoffs otherwise.

He spends his money on electioneering, not research, competitive advantages, or employee retention/pay/etc and then transfers his losses to the people that work for him. Go Go Republican "don't blame us blame Obama"

If you got laid off by this guy then congratulations, you shouldn't have to work for such a tool.
You can now access the untold wealth of the Obama handouts, so it's a win-win.

Playing games with peoples livelyhood to make a political statement... you stay classy Merle P. Coletrain.

Natural gas would still be cheaper with or without nuclear plants being a bitch to license.

Nuclear, however, destroys both coal and natural gas on power generating cost. You're talking $1 million in profit per day per plant. Profit, not revenue.

Not about the coal guy, but the local Georgia Pacific facility here near Goldsboro sent out notices prior to the election:

Basically the notices said that if re-elected, they would be forced to layoff workers and/or reduce full time workers to less than 30 hrs per week in order to afford Obamacare requirements in 2013.

Just this past weekend, Papa Johns owner basically announced the same thing.

I'm making no judgements, but if buisinesses resort to these measures in order to comply with mandatory healthcare requirements - then I really have to question is Obamacare worth it?
