And President Bush's third term continues.

I guess we'll start calling them "freedom troops" so we can say that all the combat troops are home, right?

Nah. They will take away their weapons, dress them all like Capt. Kangaroo and fill their pockets with candy and corans.

In fairness, during the campaign, he did leave open the option of troops staying in Iraq.

But, this is a General saying we could if we needed to. Thats quite a bit different from the administration saying we will.

honestly, stratigicly staying in Iraq is great for our ability to conduct operations in the Middle East.

I doubt we ever leave, and suspect we will always have forward operating bases there.

Its smack dab in the middle of all our "enemies", it makes our ability to protect our ideas a lot easier.

True, but they are not really talking about the same things. The military, by nature plans for a lot of things. They are likely planning for the potential of being out of Iraq by 2012, and of still being there in force in 2012, and for several possibilities in between. The military tries to plan for all or most possibilities. Thats their job. Notice Casey didn't say we would be there for a decade, only that they were planning for it.

Casey said several times that he wasn't the person making policy, but the military was preparing to have a fighting force deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan for years to come. Casey said his planning envisions 10 combat brigades plus command and support forces committed to the two wars.

10 combat brigades could mean 9 in Afghanistan, and one in Iraq.

Did anyone ever really doubt that Iraq was the new and established base of operations in the mid east? HA HA!. Really, what did you think?

Saudi Arabia= we now have troops in Iraq, no need to be there

Philippines= no need to have troops there with the stability of the far east
