Hurney screwed this team up so bad it will take at least 3 more good drafts to try and make up for it.

We need OL, S, WR, DT.

The crappy part is that we need multiple pieces of each of those positions. We still need a #2 to compliment Smith even though we NOW(yes its been that long) need a #1 to replace him.

Need a G and T
Need Two young DTs

Why the overreatcion....this team has given away games....some nice additions, keep the coaching staff, keep Cam, get a quality WR and risk on mid round RB and keep beefing up the D....call me crazy but the team didn't play that bad today....The offense never got into a good groove, (1) the broncos D was awesome...it was (2) you have to run the ball....at least a tease to keep the LB's from tyring to kill the QB.

You are crazy. When a team loses by 22 they played very bad.

No need for a major overhaul (the fug does that even mean?) this team easily has the talent to win, everything else needs to be retooled or changed.

Which I'm sure the next GM will promptly do. Get rid of the losers and those that have contributed to the loser mindset and we're back in the hunt. Or at the very least competitive and exciting football ffs.

I think this game Sealed Rivera's fate. We are starting to see why many teams passed on him with his multiple interviews for a HC gig. From what I understand JR didn't want him and he was Hurney's hiring?

The 90+ million backfield needs to be traded off mostly this offseason. I would re evaluate this entire OL including Gross. At least one of the RB's needs to be traded and we focus on getting one guy the meat of the carries to build a rhythm. Yeah we need a good backup, but not two starters and another overpaid guy.

DT's still suck, DB's not getting it done. LB is about the only quality position we have.

I just have to think losing at home the way we did to John Fox was the final nail in Rivera's coffin.

If Riveras faith was down to beating possibly the best team in football he is already a dead man walking. The rest of our schedule is all winnable games, that will determine if he stays or not.

Our backfield is not tradable due to hits from signing bonuses (or at least the hits next season will be higher than if we just keep them) so forget about that unless you want us to tank the next season.

It goes back to Hurney's philosophy of "building through the draft." You just can't do that these days. You need outside help. Not every draft pick is going to be a winner.

I will never ever cling to that loser philosophy.

That loser philosophy is what New England uses EVERY year. It is how you build great teams, NOT by going out and buying up free agents.

Tell me, how did that free agent approach help the Redskins years back? How about Philly now? How did Buffalo spending umpteen millions on their Defense and vastly overpaying the 'most coveted Defensive FA in years' help them?

No, SMART, GOOD teams build through the draft. Key is you have to address needs then draft BPA AND most important, have a Quality football man as your GM that knows how to correctly evaluate talent. Hurney flat out sucked.

Major overhaul - no. Just need to unload some old guys who aren't performing and are overpaid (ie Gross).

With a good coach this team would be 500 and we are young.

we have good pieces on both sides of the ball to build around (cam, stewart, kalil, olsen/ Luke, CJ, Norman) Not sure a "major overhaul" of the roster is needed, but a few definitely need to go.

the coaching staff? by all means .... clean house

Ok, so I am one to become attached to our players that have been here a while... no matter how bad they've been playing the past couple years. It is a mindset that I have to break, because I know that big change is coming.

I have always considered myself a HUGE fan of DeAngelo Williams. I mean, look at his career stats. Amazing YPC, he's an explosive player, a fan favorite and all-around good guy. But he seems to have lost something... maybe the running lanes that used to be there for him aren't there now. Maybe with all the splitting of carries, he can't get into a good rhythm. I don't know what it is, but I think DeAngelo deserves a change of scenery. Let's send him somewhere where he can thrive and show off his God given talent....and get something for him while we're at it. J Stew is our horse.

I think we HAVE to use a top 10 pick on a premier O-Lineman. Tackle, preferably. Byron Bell is going to be a good one. Gross has been getting abused. Yes, I know he was a cornerstone of our franchise... but not in a while. You know, they say that as an O-Lineman, you're doing a great job if we never hear your name. I've been hearing Jordan Gross' name every game...seemingly multiple times a game. That is unacceptable for a vet. Kalil and Bell, IMO, are the only 2 we need to keep. Silatolu as well, maybe.

Greg Hardy is an animal. He's shaping up to be maybe the best value pick we've ever had on defense. Dwan Edwards needs to stay. As does Charles Johnson. Outside of that, maybe get Kearse healthy, and let everyone else go.

LB's... we're good. Love our LB corps with or without Beason. Love it even more with Beason, of course.

Call me crazy, but I like Munnerlyn, and am beginning to love Josh Norman. I'm not sure if getting rid of Gamble is a great idea... I'd just like to see us get another stud CB to put next to him while Norman develops into the great player I think he'll become.

WR's are OK... Smitty is still Smitty. LaFell is having a breakout season, and looks like a legit #2 receiver. Obviously we need a potential #1 or #2 receiver for the future, and I think we do that through the draft. But probably not in THIS draft.

I honestly can't figure Rivera out. He says all the right things, and on paper looks like a great coach with crappy coordinators. How many great head coaches have had crappy coordinators? Not many, if any. Maybe we surround Rivera with some fresh blood and see if that doesn't turn it around.

Cam is going to be a very good QB. We just need to take care of all that crap above this line.

Overhaul? Nah

enema? Yeah

i can see the only "core" member of the team gone being williams and his spot on the roster and his cap hit probably being taken with a vet WR.

pick up a vet RG...i can't see a whole lot more than that on offense and really not much on defense other than finding another FS and adding depth to the DTs.

the real need is for an attitude adjustment.

the team psyche is going to need the emotional equivilant of a colon cleansing lunch at the beacon.

players had become too complacent with fox and then coddled early by rivera (at least when he showed up).

we need a coach to come in and bitch slap this team and put them all on notice. the bar has to be raised as far as expectations from each player and from this team.

that's pretty much why i think we need to have an experienced HC come in rather than some OC or DC that has to learn a new job on the fly. the guy has to come in knowing how to manage a team on and off the field.

but i thought you were hellbent on rivera having a 3rd year?

hellbent? no. thanks for the exaggeration, tho.

i don't want he team to lose. i don't want the team to go thru another overhaul. i want rivera (just because he's the current HC) to be given a third year to work things out....but that's if there's some amount of progress.

if there's a regression (and it looks like there is) or no move forward then we need to move on.

changing the HC staff might result in a quick turnaround, but there is by no means any gaurantee of one and it wil most likely result in another rebuilding "process". another new system to be learned on both sides of the ball isn't a good thing.

it might be the best thing, tho.

i'm not a fan of turnover within an organization but i know sometimes it's needed.

two turnovers within 3 years is something that frustrates me and could have a very negative impact on the overall team.

firing rivera should be the last resort and if it can be avoided, i think it should. unfortunately i don't think it can be avoided.

HLF is right that this team needs and will get a pretty big overhaul, most of it on offense.

Look at the OL. Gross looks very average. He also looks like he doesn't give a poo anymore. Amini (as much as I loved the pick at the time) looks bad, Kalil is a lock, we have a dumpster fire at RG and Bell looks decent provided he isn't going against speed rushers.

At TE we have Olsen and nothing.

At WR we have Smith who isn't very fast anymore and relies on kicking people's asses for receptions. LaFell only shows up every other game (you're looking like you were right carolina-chuck). After that, we have maybe Gettis. Maybe. The rest are development players that haven't shown anything. Also, outside of Gettis, we have zero speed at the position.

One of our RBs will be gone, absolutely. Probably Williams unless a big restructure occurs.

As much as I defend him and try to point out that he's not getting much help from the team, Newton hasn't been good this year. His mechanics are fuging terrible. He doesn't really seem to have his teams respect. He also looks like he's checked out which worries me far more than retarded "Vince 2.0!!!1" posts. I think that's something the new GM/Accorsi will need to look into. Because if he's not really into playing through the teams adversity or is frustrated with his/the team's lack of success, we're going to need to put a "just in case" plan into motion.

That's just the offense. On defense, you're probably looking at a new starting Safety and at least one new CB. We're also obviously changing out the coaching staff which means new system, new playbook, etc.

So yeah. Overhaul.

Really? I guess you missed some of their recent FA pickups. You know, guys like Brandon Lloyd, and Anthony Gonzalez, and Steve Gregory, and others. Before that there were guys like Randy Moss and Fat Albert.

NE signs lots of FA's. Their drafts have been very so-so for a number of years.
