Europe has a number of problems, but I can't imagine anyone would seriously argue that excessive government spending on social programs they can't afford isn't a big part of the problem in places like Greece and Spain.

The PIGS had no business being part of the Euro to begin with.

Economic standards were lowered to let them join. With the world economic collapse due to widespread banking corruption, the hens have now come home to roost.

Europe will need to need to either double down and become more centralized economically or the PIGS will need to go.

Then why is europe in the shape its in? Why are there strikes in spain? Why is austerity even on the table if smart people are in charge?
