no reason to salvage the season

48 posts in this topic

Serisously people dont need to get but hurt when someone says we need to lose out to ensure good picks.

the simple point is that there is no way we go to the playoffs, if we win out, the most we get is some media coverage. big deal.

wost case, 5 of our best players get hurt severely and are out for part of next season. what happens is TD blows that knee out again, after we are 2-10.. what was the point? when we can save him for next year.

think about it a different way, it looks like the top WR will be a 2/3 pick this season. We can win out, and pick 12-15th and maybe get the 2nd or 3rd wr, OR we can have a number 1 QB throwing to a #1 WR. on top of that, a couple of really good o line guys are predicted to go early in the second. and the rookies are cheap.

and if you think we should go d line (not only are you wrong) but the best will still be a top 5 pick...

While it may not be in any induviuals best intereste as far as stats or performance bonuses go, it IS in the best interest of the team, both short and long term to lose out. thats just a fact.

Loser mentality that is infectious, win every chance you get.

The loser mentality is already infected here. We need an antibiotic in the form of a new staff, new culture, and new players.

its not a loser mentality. i want to win as much as the next guy, but this season is lost. This gives us the absolute best chance for next season.

it's not about salvaging the season. it's about salvaging the team and giving them a reason to hang their head a little higher and a reason to come back.

no good can come from losing out or giving up. horribly bad idea. most of these guys still have fight in them. continuing to lose only takes that away.

no draft pick in the '13 is worth losing out over unless we're wanting to replace newton (which isn't the case).

we may finish with 3-4 wins anyway, but the team should continue to fight.

the moment this team becomes content with losing or feels it is acceptable in any season is the time i go find another team to cheer for.

its just not worth it.

oh...and if it's the schedule you think it will help out, it would only effect two games. that's all.

I'm honestly pretty tired of seeing "we should lose out for a better pick" threads / tweets / arguments / whatever. That is a short sighted viewpoint aimed at a bigger splash name next year. Someone go up and ask Detroit how repeated number one overall picks helped them out. Or ask a perennial winner how much they think they need to draft higher every year to win. There are so many factors more important than a few spots in the draft that will impact our performance in the coming years.

This team needs to continue to push as hard as they can to win. If they lose they lose but it had better damn well not be for lack of effort. That mentality is infectious and we already have a culture of losing around here. Tanking anything would just make it worse.
