Gabbert and Bradford are marginal QB's.
But, questioning Luck's intelligence is ridiculous. The guy graduated with honors from Stanford. He looks and sounds like a caveman, but he is very intelligent.
Also, you other statements are absolutely true. Cam was the primary reason for the championships. He helped his teams win those with his immense talent. However, the NFL is a different game and requires a different skillset from the QB. It us a skill that he really dud not have to rely in. I fully believe he will get there, but it us going to take some time. Questions about him not being able to efficiently read defenses is more a statement if what he had learned before...and not his intelligence.
And YES....I 100% agree with you that the media us overly critical of Cam.
I agree with Blaine and Sanford but my point was, no one harp on what they can't do endlessly like they do with Cam.
And, I wasn't really questioning Luck's intelligent as much as I was questioning the assumption that he's automatically an "intelligent QB" simply because. There have been quite a bit of intelligent college QBs who didn't excel as NFL QBs. Isn't the QB on the Bills from an Ivy league school? That isn't automatically make him an intelligent QB. Isn't Jimmy Clausen from a presitigious school? I'm sure many on here will question his QB iintelligence. LOL
IMO, there is more to QB "intelligence" than just having a high IQ. Instincts, keen perception and adaptability plays strong roles in a QB's ability to adjust and read defense. In all honest, I sometimes think that Cam's stubborn nature hinders his ability to quickly adapt to every defensive change. I don't think it has a thing to do with his intelligence. I think many simply go that route because of the constant VY comparision and the unfortunate black stereotyping that still exist.
Anyway, Cam's not the only one. Eli is like that and so is Tony Romo. They are high risk reward QBs for a reason. Their willingness to believe so much in their talent that they feel they can always fool a defense instead of simply adapting, hurts them a lot and it puts them in much more vunerable spot. Cam cannot afford to always take such a risk because the Panthers as a team, aren't mature and disciplined enough to bail him out when that stubbornness kicks in. Dallas and the Gaints have the talent and discpline in the other players, so Tony and Eli can take such risks and not hurt the team as much but it does catch up with them eventually. I know what I'm talking about. I'm a Gaint's fan. I cringe when Eli allows his stubbourness to get in the way of his playing. You wonder why he hasn't had any TDs in the last three games. Cam isn't as bad as Eli and Tony but his every mistake is magnified because of who he is and the Panthers are a much weaker team as a whole.
