Had been preparing for it for a while...putting my dog to sleep...

I'm prepping for it. mine is 16, deaf from a stroke a couple of years ago, and blind in one eye.

Arthritis is a problem, and it's not getting better.

But the minute I feel he isn't enjoying life, I have no problem putting him down. I may cry, but

I couldn't imagine keeping him alive if he was in pain.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

I am doing a bit better today, hopefully it gets a little better every day.

Awfully lonely in that house by myself though.

I shouldn't have opened this thread......

My German Shepherd is only 3 but I've already thought about that day. It's going to be terrible. I've went to some funerals in my life but I think that day may be the worst yet.

Some people can't even understand the bond.

Sorry to hear of your loss. There is not a better friend than a dog. Losing a good friend is such a hard thing.

Sounds like you gave your dog a very nice life. Hope you can find comfort in that.

A bit of followup.

That guy loved to get on my bed, he wasn't allowed, but if I left the door cracked even just a bit, he was in that bed. I guess it smelled like me and was crazy comfortable. But whatever.

After I brought him home, I immediately took the sheets off my bed and wrapped him in them. Took him to our beach house and got some lumber. I built him a really nice casket, and buried him by the waterway wrapped in my sheets and in the hand made casket.

I will be having a brass nameplate made and will be attaching it to the house above where I laid him to rest.

Food bowl still has food in it, his bed is still on the floor. Thanks for listening, it helps to read through this thread.

    • You would think, after years of childish behavior by many politicians that THIS is now the time to start "adulting" in DC. Maybe my gerrymandered district is about to get hit and made more competitive?  Or the demographics show my white, conservative base shrinking over the next decade?  Regardless, this is a great time to start reaching across the aisle to give those independent voters something to think about. Given that Bernie is going to throw out a universal coverage law, this might put a little motivation on the right to do some fixing to Obamacare instead of going full "socialist" with Universal Heathcare (how turrrrribbble!!).  Sometimes, you have to pick your battles, and what we've seen thus far is Trump's battles stink.
    • Based on that article, it seems that a sale will only be made if the buyer agrees to not move the team out of Charlotte. I hope that holds up.
