williams ran out of a read option/delayed handoff 2x against the eagles.

his other 9 runs came with newton under center.

he is struggling. period.

Stewart hasn't exactly had a stellar season. The two games in which he had 15 or more carries, he averaged a whopping 2.9 and 2.5 ypc.

I still can't understand the logic here. CRA and others call out D-Will for not being able to push off defenders while he's standing still waiting to see if Cam's gonna give him the ball or not. When's the last time D-Will, Stew, or Tolbert had a 100 rushing game? When's the last time any of them got close to 20 carries a game? Stew is better for this offense because he's strong enough to take a defender coming full speed downhill 3 yards past the line of scrimmage(whoopty fuging doo!). Play calling and oline is the reason for our 4 headed monster not producing the way they should.

I support D-will and Stew equally unlike others so I'm not biased. Stew is a better catcher, blocker, and power runner while D-Will is has better Rb vision and more speed. I dont want to here CRA's "he's 30" poo either. He's 29 with 1087 carries and Stew is 25 with 818 carries. For those who don't like math thats only 269 carries which is about 1 seasons worth. If Stew became an every down back he wouldn't make to age 29. If you've followed the Panthers for a while you'd know Stew has been injury prone since we drafted him.

I will agree that we pay too much for Dwill, but we also pay too much for Stew. With the offense we run none of our backs will see a 100 yard game unless they break one run for over 80 yards and D-will is the one most likely to do so.

Dwill is averaging 3.2 yard a carry
Stew averages 3.6
Tolbert averages 2.4

Looking at thoses averages and using huddle logic we should get rid off all 3 of them. Iamright guys?

people were of the opinion that williams had to go after he averaged 5.4 ypc last season.

no need to look at overall ypc...an honest eyeball test of a game is proof enough that he is on the decline.

Great point pantherclaw. Acknowledging Williams' production is dependent on line play makes him worth just about as much as guys like Andre Brown.

Which raises the question on why this franchise felt it was so important to spend a ridiculous amount of future money that they will never get back on their efforts to extend either of them.

Both of those RBs being dependent on o-line play doesn't make them equal. Tom Brady would be a poo QB behind a terrible line, and so would Clausen, but that doesn't mean they're worth the same money.

Obviously, Williams was paid too much without consulting the staff on how they intended to use him. But he was paid according to his ceiling, which is higher than Andre Brown and any RB not named Peterson in the NFL.

Pass pro is a two way street. NE's posted in the top ten in that statistic every year besides 2008. You can also reference Kurt Warner in Arizona. Their line pretty much looked like poo unless he was dropping back to throw and that's partly because he had one of the quickest releases in the game. Clausen will look terrible behind any offensive line and they will not grade out favorably as a result.

Run blocking, not so much.
