Alexander Calloway, 21, and his two cousins were trying to enter the gas station on Martin Luther King and Belarbor around 3:30 a.m., but the store was locked.

The young men got into an argument with the clerk, who unlocked his door and came outside, police said.

Someone punched the clerk in the face and the clerk pulled out his gun and shot Calloway in the stomach, according to HPD.

This is the same video at that link...

Looks to me like the clerk should be charged with some form of murder.

Yes, he got punched, but then to straight up shoot the guy... no.

He shouldn't have opened the door.

That said.

He was assaulted.
Out numbered.

So he defended himself.

Wonder who the guys were in quasi military grab walking with the protesters.

Agree that he shouldn't have opened the door... stupid.

He was attacked... after the punch, pointing the gun and telling them to go away would have been appropriate... pulling it out and shooting the guy just for the one punch was too far imo.

If both guys were punching him, it's different. One punch, from one guy, shooting is too much.

It's easy to say what is "too much" when you aren't involved.

The more that I think about it, he might have become an accessory by opening the door.

Hard to draw a weapon when two people are pounding your face.

I would like to see the entire video.

Agree with that... but from what I can see on the video, the shooting looks excessive.

Would also like to see the rest.

Doubt anyone else punched him.

We've heard of the knock out games where the intent is to find unsuspecting people and knock them out and beat them. That dude took quite a shot to the jaw. That being said...I think he went overboard. As far as the dude shot, in no way is he innocent.

Did he die?

Stupid for the guy to open the door. Stupid for him to shoot the guy.

The presence of a gun is enough to diffuse 99% of situations like this and all gun owners need to understand that. Just pull out the gun and tell him to leave - no need to shoot.

Yeah, punching someone in the face deserves a death sentence. Anyone who has ever punched someone is a worthless piece of poo.

LOL people like you..... That is exactly how people get killed. There is an old saying- "Don't pull a gun unless you are absolutely going to use it." Whether they had a gun or not, at some point they will catch up with you. Horrible advice dude
