Rivera should stay if we go 7-9 or 8-8

you mean he might have 1 more win than Cam did in his rookie season and with less talent around him to help him get there?

Redskins won 5 or 6 games last year. They were no where near the worst team when they added RG3. Cam was thrown to a 2-14 team with a gutted roster & the worst offense in the NFL. Plus he had no offseason.

Nice try, though.

It really sucks because Ron isn't a guy who's getting outclassed by other coaches very frequently. He's just awful at calling the last five minutes of a game. And that may be something he'll never overcome.

In critical situations, Ron invariably tries to protect players from themselves, rather than leaving them exposed to either make a play or fug up. Except Cam, of course. He has no problem putting the game on his shoulders.

At some point he has to trust his guys to make the play. Whether it is leaving a CB in man or calling a blitz, it is his timidity in those situations that have repeatedly cost us.

But think about it. Woth openings on Dallas, Philly, NY and San Diego why would a good prospect choose Carolina over any of those teams? In 2013 you wont have as many coach firings and it will be easier to get a good candidate. Why on earth would a Gruden or Cowher come to Carolina when they can have any of those big market teams?

I thought of this

I think the problem is that he doesn't trust guys to make plays at the end of the game so he always tries to play it safe instead of doing what got them there to begin with. He changes his philosophy at the end and pays the price when the offense can't close and the defense can't hold. Instead of staying aggressive we play not to lose which ensures we do.
