Obama scoffs at GOP fiscal cliff plan...that was his in 2011

Recommended Posts

I don't remember that, but that's the point. Unless the republicans are willing to raise the taxes on the rich, it's not going to fly, and that WAS promised. To this date I haven't heard of the republicans bringing a plan to Obama that allows the rich to pay more. Maybe I'm mistaken though.....

What do you think happens when certain deductions are removed and loopholes closed?

That needs to happen AND, they need to pay their share, not more, but their share. NOT %14 or less. That is the issue. Until they are paying what the rest of the country is, in terms of %, no less no more, then I doubt he budges. So yes, removing loopholes and whatnot will get it closer to the goal, it's only half of the issue.

It was...he was calling Reid's bluff. Sad that Reid is so willing to abrogate his congressional responsibilites. But he's done that for 4 years now through no budget. Reid, senate democrats, are the most useless individuals on the hill.

They're not the ones fillibustering their own proposals.

An amendment was presented yesterday that was Obama's fiscal cliff plan. Reid objected and did not bring the amendment to a vote. It happens both ways.

I do, and yeah, I do wonder why this can't be pushed through. What I wish the public would be given is some kind of specifics on how many loopholes and deductions are being offered to be killed. I feel like the public isn't getting all the information we deserve in this.

As a republican...I fully support ending these deductions:

mortgage interest deductions over a dollar amount ($200,000?)

no mortgage interest deductions on second homes (only primary residence allowed)

Single parent=1 child deduction, married=2 child deductions, no deductions allowed on children 3 and up

There are others, but that's just a start.

I can't believe we haven't stopped these already. Barry said no to this?

It's quotes like these that make me wonder if many liberals understand the tax codes as they stand.

Especially when 47 percent of the country doesn't pay taxes at all.

Good thing I'm not one.

Just tired of redneck republicans that drive pickup trucks :)

It's this whole..."fair share" thing that drives me crazy.

What is everyone's fair share? How much is enough?

Washington would much rather go after our hard earned dollar than cut programs, jobs, debts, etc.

If you want to complain about other people's lack of knowledge you could at least bother to get your own facts right.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a single person in this country who pays no taxes, outside of small children. Hell I payed 14 cents in taxes already today

The real issue is, the whole tax thing needs blown up and rebuilt from the ground up, but good luck getting people to agree on anything.
