better than rivera? yes.
best man for the job? don't think so.
he's tried and true, but the game has been in the process of changing for several years.
i just don't think his brand of football is relevant anymore or at the very least is quickly on the way out. hes a ball control guy coming from the old school. he's a relic. maybe he can adjust. i don't know...but he'd have to if this team was to be successful and dominant. doing it the way he did for years wouldn't work for long, esp. if he didn't have lebeau running the D (which is what the true strength of that team was).

Still dont agree.
Since 2001 when the Ravens won it all 7 times in 12 Super Bowls attacking 3-4 Defenses have hoisted the Lombardi at the end of the Super Bowl. This is Cowher's bread and butter. This is completely relevant in today's game.
(All of the "but what about Dick Lebeau" herd take a rest as Lebeau was gone during Cowher's tenure 7 years from the Steelers.)
Now take a look at what Cowher had behind center until Big Ben finally arrived and you'll understand his offense.
Leadership, physical attack defenses and using your roster to it's fullest benefit is what this Panther organization needs.

it's what he wants his team to do with the ball on offense that troubles me.
Understood.
I sure would like to see where Cam and the Panthers would be right now if defense was emphasized and Deangelo Williams and Jonathon Stewart carried the bulk of the load while Cam was aked to pass ~ 20 times per game the first couple years as Ben Rothlisberger was.
Learn how to win, carry more responsibility as warranted. Big Ben is one hellova crunch time QB at this point in his career. Cam should be able to do everything Rothlisberger does and run a 4.6 40 while doing it.

we can't play the game the way we used to or really the way the steelers did when big ben was a rookie. you have to be able to put a lot of points on the board. if you don't, then you get left behind. passing just 20 times a game just isn't going to cut it anymore.
you can't learn how to win when your offense is playing a brand of offense that keeps you from getting the points on the board you need to win.

Steelers, 49ers, Bears, Texans, Ravens, Giants, Broncos, Seahawks, these teams average giving up less than 20 points a game.

Cam Newton | 23 Pass Attempts or Lesspassing just 20 times a game just isn't going to cut it anymore.

6 Wins
0 Losses
Cam Newton | 24 Pass Attempts or More
3 Wins
19 Losses
My math might be off just slightly but your statement I quoted is incorrect.

Alex Smith is 6-0 over the last two seasons.
Big Ben 33-2 in his career on 23 attempts or less. One of those losses in overtime. Both losses by 3 or less.

Get over it.
Not to mention Marty Schottenheimer lives much closer.

Absolutely, unequivocally, without a doubt there is NO chance Cowher coaches here.
Get over it.
Not to mention Marty Schottenheimer lives much closer.
