Why does "conservative humor" fail so badly?

Recommended Posts

comedy, and specifically satire situates around lampooning the status quo... conservatism largely aspires to the status quo (whatever that may be subjectively.) I also think that strong conservatives put politics before comedy... anger and comedy don't mix... rush wouldn't be popular if he told jokes, o'reilly wouldn't be popular if he told jokes... Liberal comedians make their points through jokes... but the comedy comes first... Miller used to be funny, until his politics started coming before his humor... then he stopped being funny. My uncles are some of the most conservative motherf*ckers you'll meet, and they are freaking hilarious... but if you get them on politics... no f*cking jokes. serious business, because THIS COUNTRY IS GOING TO HELL.

if you think like that, nothing is funny.

Nah...conservative republicans spend their days working.

Not sitting around the house playing XBox all day and trying to think up funny things to say like liberal Democrats.

you really take this all very personally don't you?

Louis CK: I'm white, I can get in a time machine and get a front row seat whatever year I land in.

Liberals: Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha! (deep breath) Ah ha ha ha ha ha!

i know a lot of conservatives that think that joke is funny too. that isn't a political joke... if you think it is...

wait, i just figured out why conservatives aren't funny.

This is what I had in my head but couldn't quite articulate it. Thanks.

It isn't unfunny. It's mildly amusing. But I know liberals who think it's the be-all end-all of comedy.

Another example....

Larry the Cable Guy: I'm madder than a ***** with lockjaw on Valentine's Day.

Conservatives: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Liberals: God, that man is a pig!

If you don't think that line is funny at all, but you think the Louis CK line is hysterical, I don't know what to tell you. Go on thinking you've got comedy figured out. But truth is you don't have a clue.

A most comedy is observational.

People that deny global warming, think the government should balance their books the same way as a local HVAC Contractor does, deny evolution, and think minorities only vote based on who panders to them are generally pretty observationally challenged.

My thought was "God, that man is a pig!" it was "That was boring."
