Goodell wants to expand playoffs?

120 posts in this topic

^ agreed. (with BB, for the first time ever)

I think I'd like the half-league playoffs. Either that, or stop letting division champs get in automatically. If anything, the current system allows for mediocrity more than if they were to just let the best 6 or 8 teams go to the playoffs instead of division champs + 2 wildcards.

BTW, your sig GIF is reversed. The guys actually does a regular flip from his fingertips. Still impressive, but not the back flip to fingertips as shown.

Cut 2 preseason games.

Go to 14 playoff teams.

Everybody is happy

i really could get behind that.

preseason games are a joke, esp. asking fans to pay regular prices to go see games that don't matter being played predominantly by players who at best will be sitting on another team's bench when the real season games start.

If the NFL expands to 18 game season, I'd be for it, many more teams would have playoff type seasons

well the over corrections for player safety, the murmerings of removing kickoffs all together, and the talk about getting London a team make me hate Goodell but I'm not against a 14 team playoff or removing a preseason game or two.

I think its a joke when half of the league makes the playoffs, whats the prestige in that? Truth be told I think the NBA and NHL(16/30 teams make playoffs)should trim their playoffs as well if they could, although its not possible bc you would have to give a couple of teams a bye, and that would be an enormous advantage over a team that just played a 7 game series. I am tired of Goodell trying to ruin the game, sad part is he is going to be around for a while seeing as he was just re-elected as Commish, last year?

I wouldn't be apposed to eliminating the pre-season all together (or downsizing it to 2 games), going to a 18 game schedule (teams can get two bye weeks and expanded rosters), and expanding the playoffs to 14-16 teams.

All the people that are saying if Goodell is doing this, how come he doesn't suggest 18-20 teams to make the playoffs is crazy. That would ruin the game and you are cutting down your own argument with stupid remarks like that.

Oh..and lol to all the people whose vaginas are getting tight over this.

I think it would be great.

Part of what makes March Madness possibly the most exciting playoff in sports is the possibility of the underdogs unexpectedly beating the teams who weren't supposed to be beaten.

An example in the NFL as that sub .500 Seahawks team beating the favored Saints in he playoffs 2 years ago. Now tell me you didn't like that fellow Panthers fans.

And more optimism... With the subpar coaches we keep hiring, we could still make it with our late season streak of meaningless wins.

Theoretically, I also think it will make the regular season much more exciting because teams would still be playing as hard in week 16 as they were in week 1 if more teams have a chance to make it in.

The more I read about this, the more I soften to the idea. I still kinda prefer to the way it is now but with the league becoming more competitive, it would be a disservice to those teams that played the tough schedule and were competitive in those games but missed out on the playoffs to the Atlanta Falcons of the league. Enlarging the pool will at least give them a shot.

I'm still skeptical with Goodell at the helm, though.

Im for removing 1 preseason game making it a season game. This will eliminate 8-8, you either have a winning season or you dont...

again a sign that people aren't paying attention...just going with the blind rage.

goodell isn't proposing the elimination of kickoffs. he stated that a coach, schiano, was proposing it and was using that as an example of the type of things that the league would look at when they go in for their post season meetings...just like they do every year. he wasn't advocating it. he was asked about things the league was looking at and he threw that out there.

and rule changes have ALWAYS been a part of the game. the game is constantly evolving and growing and it always has. get over it.

Normally, rayzor, I agree with you, and this kickoff thing, I only read 3 sentences of 4 articles and dismissed the idea. This isnt blind rage, this is me disagreeing with the current commissioner of teh NFL. I do not think that moving the kickoff 5yds or eliminating them all together is in the best interest of the game. I doubt that adding anymore games is in teh best interest of player safety, neither is more playoff games. Like I said, if it aint broke.... What is wrong with the current playoff scenario that would deem changing it?

If the rules are changed to protect the players or the game, to eliminate bad calls(need them ref's to step up), to make it a better experience for everybody, then I am on board. I just do not think some of the things Goodell does reflect those intentions...

Where is the challenge in making the playoffs if every other team makes it in? It should be a challenge to make the playoffs. Essentially by having a 16 team playoff, if you make it to 8-8, odds are, you will make the playoffs. Since when is it OK to strive for a mediocre record?

8-8 teams have made it in the current format. It can happen now. And some of those teams made runs in the playoffs.

I'm for it because of all of the seasons that we have sucked early on because coaches didn't get our guys ready to play until we were 1-5 and then we streak to 7-9 or 8-8. Some of those teams could've made a run in the playoffs. To me, that makes the playoffs even more exciting.
