0 - To make the playoffs. Had we closed games out this year there is no doubt we could have been a playoff team this season. We just need to improve our team to keep up with any other team improvements in the NFC. Run this same season back and we could be right in the thick of things with very different results.

If we would have had the talent we would have had a better record this year ie run blocking, stopping the run, cbs,fs, even with Rivera

if we're 6-7 players away from making a playoff run.........

then people need to get off Rivera's back.

False. We have all the talent in the world to win and our captain even guaranteed a fugging Super Bowl win.

It's going to be his third season.

Exactly, we have the talent to go far. No team has superstars or even "good" players at EVERY position. The Giants won their Superbowls with a worse secondary than ours. The Colts won their Superbowl with half the talent on defense we have and their O-line wasn't particularly good either. The Steelers O-line might have been worse than ours in their Superbowls too. Yea we are way below average at FS and OG right now, but as a whole the sum of talent is there. Coaching kept us back this year.

Most teams have area's of weakness... there is probably not one team message board you could go to where fans will not say we could have a better record if position X, Y and Z were upgraded or better.

Still I believe with our current team we had the players to make a run, and in the playoffs it only takes 2 wins to get to the NFCCG. With Cam alone that's possible and we could beat any team any given sunday.

Just my opinion.

Better coaching. We have tons of holes. We will fill some, others will open up. You gotta work with what you have.

agreed. we may not have gone far, but at least we'd be in them.

i think we do need an upgrade at FS, SS, and RG.

we do need to be adding another legit WR to fill smitty's shoes. we do need to be looking to replace gross. we do need to be replacing ron edwards and probably dwan as well. and we need kalil back.

we've got enough talent to hang with the best of them, though. it's just a matter of getting over the hump and getting a coaching staff that won't tap on the brakes ever and can manage a game better..

We have the talent and if the coaches get their heads out of their asses (or get replaced), they should be able to get into the playoffs fairly easily. But then what? The team has no depth to sustain consistently. This is the second season in a row with double digit numbers on IR. That doesn't bode well for any team looking to go far into the playoffs.

OT, RG, WR, CB, S, K, DT, (even though our Dline isn't the weakest part of the D).............and a special teams coach.

We should have made it this year

Atlanta
Chicago
Seattle
Dallas
Tampa Bay

We all should have won. From being a legit contender? I say 4-5 S, OL, DT, CB need upgrades. Maybe WR

Are you saying we need 4-5 Safeties or 4-5 total, then listed the positions? My first impression, and what inspired me to click "Quote", was that you meant 4-5 Safeties lol. Then I realized there's another possible meaning :)

In my opinion, the only holes are RG and FS, but we need future replacements at DT, WR, LT, CB. Well, I guess I'd also consider DT a hole, I doubt R. Edwards is back next year and holy poo Fua is bad. Kearse is a solid backup (and possible future replacement) for D. Edwards, but not at NT.

Depends on what happens with gamble, beason, and Gross. If we keep them and they stay healthy I think all we need is a good safety, a guard, a DT, and a serviceable pass-catching TE (to replace shockey who we have really missed this year).

This is kind of a trick question. With Rivera coaching, we probably need upgrades at both Safety positions, Defensive Tackle, Right Guard, and possibly Right Tackle, as well as several special teams players to make the playoffs. With a better coach, we could make them with our current roster.

This.

Safties and receivers would help, but not needed as much as you're saying. Our roster is not why we're not in the playoffs.
