Captain Morgan

How has Silatolu progressed?

Bell is good at RT, but having mediocre RG will make him look worse then what he is IMO, just like Gross having a rookie next to him. Bell's and Amini will get better.

Anybody remember when the 49ers drafted Anthony Davis (11th pick in the 1st round) and Mike Iupati (17th pick in 1st round) In the 2010 Draft?. Those guys came into the league and didnt do to well their 1st year, but continued to get better. They are on year 3 and playing some really good football. Bell and Amini will be good IMO, just got to let them develop.

Davis and iupati were bad their first years, iupati has turned into a really good guard and Davis has been pretty bad. But I get what your saying, hard to come in and dominate a bunch of grown ass men

Bell has to move to gaurd next season.

LT- Draft or Free agent

LG- Bell

C-Kalil

RG-Silatolu

RT-Gross

then draft another tackle in the next draft to eventually take over for Gross

Terrible idea to move Bell. Why move AS to the other side? To steepen the learning curve?

Amini has struggled but it's not uncommon for rookie offensive linemen to struggle (ex. see Cowboys rookie last year, can't remember his name: Tyrone something lol).

Also for those bashing Bell, he did grade out as one the best rookie offensive linemen last year, if I'm not mistaking.

Amini went from Community College level to the NFL- it's going to take some time.

I thought Davis was playing pretty good this year.

ITT: a bunch of ruminations from people who couldn't discern decent line play to save their life.

Bell has been fine, especially considering the number of guards he's played next to and even played at himself.

Silatolu has picked up a lot from earlier in the year, beating defenders with brute strength even if the technique still isn't there. He stills struggles picking up inside rushes and stunts but is better than before.

Anyone advocating getting rid of Gross has a screw loose, he's still a much better LT than we'd have any hope signing or trading for and even if we grab an LT with our first pick I doubt we'd get someone who would be an improvement within the first two years.

I think Gross has at least another season or two left in him, and I think he also means too much to this team as a veteran presence. If he restructures and the team continues to win, I'd love to see Chance Warmack plug that Ava Devine-sized gape at RG.

MHS's post helped me understand though why Silatolu was getting bodied so bad against Denver. There was a particular play where Clemons, Wagner, and the DT came off the edge and Silatolu didn't engage the DT (or was it Wagner?) who got a free shot at Gross, which knocked him off of his man and left DWill to have to choose which player got to hit Cam :/ It also explains why a majority of Silatolu's big blocks come when he's free to go level whomever Gross is protecting against. Good post dude!

don't know what you guys were watching. Bell looked good at gaurd to me. Then again I have no idea because I don't watch the Oline. I just like to talk out of my ass. Continue on with your discussion

Bell seems to be better as a run blocker than a outside pass blocker. i would look to send him to a OG slot than an OT. But only if they could find a better replacement for ROT.

I'm seeing a rookie progression similar to Bell, which bodes well for next season.

Amini was dreadful early on but has making gains in the run-blocking department. I still think his pass blocking needs some work, though.

He is looking better than he did early in the season. Though, he continues to get beat with schemes - not physicality. Once he gets the mental aspect he'll be a good pick up. But don't forget, he played LT in college. So he's not just coming from a small time school to the NFL. He's coming from a small school (subpar competition) and he's changing positions.

some good posts here, thanks. Early on, I was scared we made a big mistake with a second round pick,

but I kept telling myself, he's a rookie, give him time.

just wanted to hear someone say he really is getting better.

Bell is weak against speed guys on pass pro, but when he gets his hands on them they're done. He really looks a lot like Otah did his rookie year. Much improved but a little rough around the edges still.
