War on Guns

*some* handguns in the crosshairs. did you read the article or did you just copy and paste after drudge linked you to it because it confirmed the bias of your grossly hasty generalizations and mischaracterizations?

I read it.

It's a gun grab.

It expands government again.

Adds taxes.

More punishment to middle class law abiding americans.

Ahh I was referring to the blanket bans on "scary looking guns" that this bill is working towards, also the ban of basically every Glock style pistol.

"blah, blah, blah.

There has been talk from a lot of Dems for awhile about pistols with clips being included in bans. And yes, I read the article. Typical of the anti gun lobby and politicans..."

Yep, it's the "Dems"...

You do realize the biggest anti-gun lobby on Capitol Hill is the James Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, right? You do know who James Brady is, right? The Republican press secretary to Ronald Reagan who took a bullet to the head from John Hinckley, Jr's. assassination attempt on Reagan...

...the same anti-gun lobby who has repeatedly given President Obama an "F" for failing to ask for any anti-gun legislation during this first term....

...but you're right, it's those damn Dems everytime.

I could go through this forum and say " a country divided" and it would be correct.

It will never work.

The American population is armed for a reason, so that the people always have the final say on matters of government and the protection of their families within their domain.

The drug wars never stopped drugs, Prohibition never stopped alcohol, and a gun ban will only make things worse because only the law abiding citizens would turn them in, and the criminally minded would not, resulting in the criminals being the only armed people.

A kilo of cocaine or a pound of weed are both larger than a gun, and the government cant keep those items from coming across our borders... how could they possibly stop weapons smuggling of the same sort?

So what you are saying is that guns are just as addictive as alcohol and drugs and that a "war" will not work on them..

It is not an addiction.

For most owners, it is about hunting and tradition. Then you have people who only own a firearm and keep it in their bedroom to keep their family safe.

No one is addicted to guns. That is rediculous.

I agree with you that one day, decades in the future, we will finally be able to put our weapons down and quit killing each other... but that time is in the future, and until that day, Americans have the right to own weapons to protect ourselves and family from criminal predators.

Our founders wanted us armed so that the government could never have complete control over the people ever again. We had to protect ourselves from the English crown in 1776, and a day may come in the future when we may have to protect ourselves from our own government.

If you look at history, the poeple that were able to disarm their citizens always followed up with millions of civilian deaths. Look what happened after the Nazis took away their people's rights. Look at what Stalin did to the USSR after he disarmed his people...
