Man our D is going to suffer without Anderson :-(. Jk, he was the worst contract during the "core" offseason. We could have ourselves a comparable player for next to nothing from the scrap heap or FA.
You do know he had 20 tackles against giants this year right? and that he doesn't have as many tackles this year unlike last year because Keek is getting them for him. Anderson isn't the best in zone coverage but overall as a LB he's much much more than a "scrap heap". Whatever the fug that is.

Its the Raiders and our season is over... was it so bad(whatever he did) that he can't play?

As you mentioned he does hurt us in coverage, but his weak spot that hurts our entire team is taking on blocks. He doesn't fully commit and instead of stonewalling the blocker, plugging the hole he gets drivin right out. You see Davis and Kuechly makes plays for eachother by sacrificing themselves by eating a block for the other guy to make the stop every game. Not Anderson. You do know he had 20 tackles against giants this year right? and that he doesn't have as many tackles this year unlike last year because Keek is getting them for him. He signed the contract prior to the 2011 season, then went out and led the team in tackles (145) by 61 over the next guy on the list (Godfrey). Throw in a couple picks- the team leaders (Gamble and Martin) were tied at 3- and you have an outside LB who can also play in the middle.
7/29/2011: Signed a five-year, $22 million contract. The deal contains $8.5 million guaranteed, including a $7 million signing bonus and $1.5 million of Anderson's second-year salary. An annual $100,000 workout bonus is available in years two through five.
2012: $2.4 million
2013: $2.9 million
2014-2015: $3.9 million
2016: Free Agent
The guy signed a contract that paid him big up front, saved a bunch of cap space and he's getting $7.5M over 4 years, which is not a lot of money. And remember, this was long before anyone knew Kuechly was even on the radar.
Know who else signed a contract at the same time? Thomas Davis- $36.5M over 5 years- and this was after 2 ACLs, soon to be 3 not long after he signed the contract. And you're telling me that in July of 2011 Anderson was a bigger contract risk than Thomas Davis?
The Panthers are playing right now with a low-rent LB corps: Jason Phillips ($540k 1-year), Senn ($750k 1-year), Kuechly ($12.58M 4-year fully guaranteed; $7.6M up front and a $390k base in 2012).
So before you use the wisdom of hindsight, you should put yourself back in time to July 2011 and see where this team was then. Anderson is the veteran leadership on this LB corps having been playing there longer than anyone else on the roster. Davis is a year ahead of Anderson, but obviously missed a couple seasons.
