You don't go from being head coach to fuging d-cord on the same fuging team.

Of course, but has a head coach ever been the coordinator for the team he was coaching the year before? Doubtful.

I was about to ask the same question...has that happened on any team ever?

Note: Some of the best coaching staffs have ex HC as coordinators

Texans- Broncos- Packers- Saints ( back when they had Gregg Williams)

It's a trend worth looking at

This is NOT the same situation, he would still be on the same team, basically taking a demotion. Wont happen.

you're misunderstanding what people are saying.

HC's do not get fired and then stay on (with the same team that fired them) as an assistant.

meeks wasn't demoted. his contract as defensive coordinator under fox had expired.

he was then hired as secondary coach under rivera.

Yeah, that's what happens when I throw that word around too loosely. Didn't mean he got demoted. Just took a smaller job within the same organization. Only Rivera's situation would call for demotion since he's still under contract...even though that will never happen in the first place.

Gunther Cunningham was fired as HC of the Chiefs and came back a couple years later as DC. Not immediately the next year, though.

No I understand.... And yes the chances of it happening are very low.

That isn't how it works.

New coach brings in "his" staff.

Why do some people get so angry on here?

It's just a topic of discussion....

I don't think that he'd stay on a DC if offered...and I don't know how much input he's had on our defensive turnaround. If it was significant, I'd certainly offer, if he isn't retained as HC...

This idiotic theory has been discussed at length here on the huddle. I'm going to assume you are just trolling, but if you aren't, name a time when an NFL coach got demoted to coordinator on the same team in consecutive years.

I'm simply asking the question if the opportunity presented itself and Rivera was on board would you want him on the staff as DC. If you don't wise to discuss theoretical topics confine yourself to post game and static threads.
