Well JR has a huge hardon for Cowher but he wanted complete control. If he was unwilling to give it to him, he wont give it to a college coach.

Never know, things could have changed between now and then given his loyalty, at the time, to Hurney. I really doubt he would give a coach full control over personnel decisions though.

The Panthers owner has never actually expressed any interest in Cowher.

Some Panther fans have, but not the owner.

Nope, a guy with no NFL past at all wants almost complete control? Hell no.

Holmgren, shanahan have ruined teams with this formula... I like chip but like just barley more than Rivera.

Some of you do not understand the art of negotiation yet. You never start with what you want you start with beyond what you want & then "settle" in the middle with what you actually wanted. I'm glad people still fail to understand this, as it has always made life easier for me.

Chip's Agent can float this story out to a "Source" to test the waters on this but they'll quickly realize there is no shot any NFL Franchise will give Kelly Carte Blanche on Personel decisions.

That is true. It could just be a negotiating tactic. You never know about these things in till you start hearing stuff about deals and agreements in principle.

and then he goes on and take the Eagles to the Playoffs next season while we're stuck with Rivera, and JR has half the stadium fill with opposing fans. Right?

yep. I'd be fine letting Kelly just run the whole damn ship.

This.

The only guys who get deals like that are well established coaches with Super Bowl rings - and still yet, their success hasn't exactly been widespread magnificent success in those scenarios either.

Yeah it's rare.

Jimmy Johnson - before Jerruh decided he should be the acting GM and blew JJ out. How's that working for you Jerruh?
Mike Holmgren, but I think he also suffered burn out.
Bill Parcless in various scenarios.
Anybody else?

A coach with no NFL experience thinks he can be a head coach and general manager?

This guy is nuts. No thanks.
