I had a similar experience over the holidays. I went to my soon to be in-laws home which is in bumfuq east TX. Anyhow, it was sort of opposite because some people in the small town would intentionally try to get disability benefits so they wouldnt have to do poo for the rest of their lives. However, if you even mention Obama, they get pissed and start yelling stuff like "he's a communist muslim democrat...take our guns etc". They vote republican even though it makes more sense for them to vote democrat.

I had a similar experience albeit with democrats happen to me over the holidays. Went to visit an old friend that I use to party with back when I was into that stuff. He drinks to much and is not doing well. His daughter was there, and she is very much into politics and I made the mistake of getting into a political conversation. When she found out I voted for Romney, she attacked me, and republicans in general.

I listened to her rant about how republicans treat poor people and want to cut social spending for a little while, and then I had to respond. I told her that she of all people should understand why there is a backlash by some against social spending. Her dad is on disability primarily because he stays drunk all the time. Her brother was on unemployment for 2.5 years and intentionally tried to avoid getting a job during the entire time. Once it finally ran out, he got arrested for breaking into someone's house. Her aunt is on section 8 and stays drunk and high most of the time. I do believe the government should help less fortunate, but I couldn't believe she had the nerve to criticise my politics when I have contributed more to the tax base than her entire family combined.

NCBiscuit, at least your uncle, paranoid though he may be, did contribute something. To many contibute nothing, and expect something in return.

We have become a sad nation of takers, whiners, finger pointers, etc.

This country needs to grow some balls again.

But, this happens to every nation. We are still very young, but this dream will fail.

Speaking of both sides on the take. This should do nothing to bolster peoples confidence in our gov, especially while both squaking about fiscal cliff.
