No one thinks they aren't good, but worth 90 million dollars?

Actually a lot of people were saying exactly that about Williams.

Mostly before Stewart went down and Williams started averaging 6-7 ypc.

maybe i'm reading your post wrong, but...

the past 4 games without stewart, williams has averaged 3.9 ypc.

in the 6 games that stewart has missed all season, williams has a 3.6 ypc average.

I'll be sad to see him go, but when you lay it out like this it makes perfect sense.

I'd rather add to our OL and secondary...wait on Hardy.

Does anyone know the details on Stewarts Option bonus? I know he got around 9 million in a Signing Bonus, Then another 9 million on an option bonus due in 2014. Another 6 million of his contract isn't earned yet. He can be cut with a hit of around 7.2 million, it does cost the team 4.4 million next year but saves the team the 9 million option in 2014 and around 27 million over the next 5 years. If they split it over two seasons it looks a lot better. Williams getting cut makes a lot of sense as well.

A possibility that Stewart might be out because his contract is easier to get rid of by the looks of it. Getting rid of Stewart and Williams now would save the team over 50 million dollars over the next 4-5 years. Leaving Tolbert, Smith and Poole left on the team. Gets the team some extra money to help rebuild the team in some critical areas, add that to Anderson, Beason, Gross and Gamble's deals being reworked or released and it might fix the cap issues in a year or two.

D Will is better thn Stew, who can barley walk at this point. Cut Stew, and draft a back.

Sure, but that doesn't really change anything cap-wise. We essentially could do the same thing by re-structuring and that eliminates the chance he signs elsewhere.

That's assuming we want to keep him.

Healthy?

A 30 yr old Williams isn't > than a 26 yr old Stewart. That is next year....

Williams was essentually benched the last 2 seasons bc Stewart is more complete. Stewart was jus banged up all year.

I think he still has a lot to offer from the RB position, just need a good fullback. Yet then again, it would probably be best to let him go, so we can get the full usage out of Tolbert as a RB.

That's not the complete case, it's a question of if Williams at 30 is better then a player who hasn't really been healthy but for a very short time in his NFL career which at this point is in it's fifth year. He's had constant Ankle and foot issues his whole career so far. On the other hand you have a RB that is about to hit the dreaded 30 year old mark. Honestly with the way the contracts are made up and the cap issues the team has, it's better to get rid of both of them. Run Tolbert who honestly fits the Offense better then both of them. Then have Smith and Poole as the back ups or pick up one in the draft or as an UDFA.
