As you know, I'm retired military. I'm also a social Democrat, a fiscal moderate, a foreign policy Republican and I'm not at all sure what any of those have to do with my owning a gun.

I'm 6'6" @ 270 lbs, so I don't have any illusions that carrying a gun is going to somehow "protect" me, I'm a big target.

That being said, I do enjoy range practice to keep my head clear and hands steady as I get older. We own his and hers Beretta 92F, I have a Sig Sauer P238HD and a Remington 870MCS shotgun.

Assorted handguns, shotguns and rifles. No "assault" weapons as currently defined.

I dare say that some who feel totally safe do not live miles out in the country away from police departments, gated communitys, etc. Big difference in living in a secure environment vs "on your own" so to speak.

My german flips the hell out if it smells like someone across the street is thinking about pulling their trash can to the road. It's an excellent breed to have for extra peace of mind.
