Observer article regarding Rivera/GM

GM candidates coming in on Monday.

This process is moving with the funereal rapidity of a Hardee's drive-thru.

I completely agree with this. No GM will want to come in to somebody else guy. They want their own guy most of the time. You are pretty much limiting your choice of candidates if you tell them that they have to stick with Rivera.

Now see, why is this a rule? A new GM must bring in his own guy. Why is it against all possibilities that a Ross or Gettlemen won't keep Rivera?

Said it a million times. You folks slay me.

In fairness, nobody else has hired a GM yet either. Don't know if anyone's even interviewed yet.

Coaching interviews, and one possible hire, yes. But I don't know that anyone else's GM search is that much faster than ours.

It's not at all unusual for a new GM to give an existing coach a shot to prove himself.

I realize that a few around here believe this thought. But as a rule, most folks "Just know" that our new GM will want his own coach. It amazes me how the average fan just knows what will happen. Especially with the dirth of "Quality" coaches available.

I mean, come off it with the just replace Rivera with another coach and we are gold. That is not necessarily true.

The problem with most folks around here is the fact that we have not been as successful as they want. So they rail against the statu quo. Wanting change just for change sake. I see progress. And I just don't believe our new GM will dismantle this staff and start over.

Oh well, just preaching to the choir. What few of them there actually are anyway.

Chargers started interviews on Tuesday with Raye and have continued since then.

The Jaguars are pretty far along in the process with David Caldwell. He's had two interviews with the Jaguars so far.

The Cardinals are starting the process this weekend as well.

The Chiefs will either bring in Heckart as the GM.

Lets see the Jets are starting Interviews this weekend, Rex Ryan isn't involved at all in the process.

The Panther's I'd expect to start this weekend after JR get's back. There's three targets and one of them will get hired and It'll most likely be on Monday when that happens after they've all had their interviews.

Edit: To add to the above. To my knowledge neither Ross or Gettleman have interviewed with anyone yet.

Raye is an in-house candidate. Of the teams with openings, I think only the Chargers and Cards have those.

I'd only heard that the Jags asked to interview Caldwell (as well as Gamble and someone else).

As to the Chargers part, Ron Wolf gave information out that interviews had started. Just wouldn't say who all they've interviewed already.

So getting an early start, but still a few other candidates to go.

Still looks like most of the action will be next week.

So basically the Jags are the only ones who've interviewed an outside candidate (Chargers interviewed in-house, Reid is bringing Heckert along for the ride - no doubt if Reid went elsewhere that Heckert WOULD NOT be in KC).
