Chicago is still reeling from more than five hundred murders in 2012, and the homicides are already out-pacing the days of this new year.

Hate the source.

I wonder if this is a gang issue or a gun issue?

The issue is guns, not the people. It's kinda like the TSA - instead of looking for terrorists, they look for water bottles.

Chicago and Illinois started strict restrictions in the late 80's early 90's. After these restrictions were put in place homicides fell 46% over the next 20 years (1990: 851 homicides, 2010: 436). The population grew and shrank in this time period, ending up contracting 3%)

The Supreme Court overturned many of these bans in 2009, and Chicago overturned many of the handgun bans in 2010. In the two years since homicide rates have gone up 16%.

ISN'T THIS FUN?!!

You can't know the full story from just the one factor (homicide rates). But it sure as hell didn't increase the homicide rate.

Chicago doesn't have a gun problem. It has a thug problem.

Tell you what...post the gang related violent crime rates...add in "fbi" gang membership statistics too...and overlay that to your homicide rate graph.

Huh. As gun laws were loosened, gang violence increased too. Well I be damned.

I wonder if the increase in guns helped gangs in other places too?

Maybe somewhere like, say, Mexico...

Well ain't that strange. Wonder what happened in 2004?

I don't think I'd bring up border states where Obama had a penchant to arming Mexican cartels.
