Steelers have made it a priority to draft O lineman high because holding the ball a long time is a part of Big Bens game. Gotta protect him as long as you can.

I know we need a RG desperately, but given the cap situation and the value of the LT position, we may want to go that way.

For you draftniks out there, which tackles carry a 1st round grade that might be available at our pick?

In no order:

Luke Joeckel
Dallas Thomas
Taylor Lewan
Eric Fisher

Joeckel will be long gone and probably at least one of Lewan or Fisher.

Most college linemen wear knee braces.

Good call...

Warmack is the likeliest player available when the Panthers draft that will add a new dimension to the team. Many of our plays (run and pass) were stuffed due to poor interior line play - mostly RG, but Amini made his share of mistakes as well. A guy like Warmack would prove more valuable than can be imagined at first glance; but just think about it.

What if our RBs actually had holes to run through? Maybe Chud would actually call runs on consecutive plays that aren't options.

What if Cam could actually step up in to the pocket consistently? Maybe those intermediate passes don't sail on him so much.

What if Chud could call a lead/load/trap/blast inside the redzone without the fear of a run for a loss? Maybe they wouldn't have to settle for so many FGs.

That's a good point CPF4L, the Steelers front office identifies and addresses their team needs.

Hopefully the new Panther FO will do the same.

He got hit so much because the line was being switched constantly. Injuries killed

how to rebuild a franchise:

1. get a franchise quarterback
2. draft trenches
3. draft trenches
4. again? sure, why not: draft trenches
5. draft trenches
6. draft skill position players

And they can draft skill position for years after solidifying the fronts. Teams that win the LOS on both sides of the ball are so hard to beat.

People don't even understand how hard it is to get #1 done, let alone add a franchise MLB the next year.

And the Steelers address their OL needs in the draft:

Steeler Drafts since 2010

2112:
RD SEL # PLAYER POSITION SCHOOL
1 24 David DeCastro G Stanford
2 56 Mike Adams T Ohio State

2111:
RD SEL # PLAYER POSITION SCHOOL
2 63 Marcus Gilbert T Florida
6 196 Keith Williams G Nebraska

2110:
1 18 Maurkice Pouncey C Florida
5 151 Chris Scott T Tennessee

In that same time frame the Panthers have drafted one OL prospect higher than round 6 and two others in rounds 6 & 7:

2112:
2 40 Amini Silatolu G Midwestern State
2011
6 203 Zack Williams C Washington State
7 244 Lee Ziemba T Auburn

DBU - Draft Big Uglies

Eh, Decastro tore his acl in the pre-season.

I find it amusing that the only reason this info came out is because ESPN was digging around to find someone to blame for Griffin getting injured. I dont think anyone on ESPN at any time, mentioned how little time Cam had in the pocket.

U shouldn't be, It's ESPN. I could have sworn they were saying that Aaron Rogers was the most sacked QB.

I actually like D J Fluker too, though he won't likely be rated as high as Warmack.

(but then I've long been a proponent of moving Byron Bell to guard)

I don't follow college so don't know anything about Warmack, but I do support the idea of surrounding Cam with as many Alabama players and coaches as possible just to ruin the experience for their fans. If we can get Saban to leave to be the QB coach that would be fun too.

i'm all for concentrating on the OL this offseason.

just be ready for any players you draft to flat out suck their first year or two. it takes 99% of them a season or two to learn to take the rollerskates off.

we need vet talent in the interior, esp. unless, of course people are willing to give the guys that get drafted time to figure out how to not seem like a turnstile.

Is there an actual stat showing he got hit the most? Because hit on the highest percentage doesn't mean he was hit the most.
