Fantastic hire
poor dude has a ton of cutting and work to do!
If he brings this guy Matt Harriss with him from the Giants, I think he'll be off to a pretty good start.

Giants GM Jerry Reese said in a statement that he is thankful for Gettleman's hard work and friendship over his Giants tenure.
"Dave is extremely qualified to be the general manager of the Panthers and will do a terrific job," Reese said. "The Panthers interviewed two of the top personnel executives in the NFL in Dave and Marc Ross, and couldn't go wrong either way, in my humble opinion."
Co-owner John Mara added, "I have mixed emotions about this. Dave certainly deserves to be a general manager, but I am very sorry to lose him. He has been instrumental to the success we have had and we are certainly going to miss him. He will do a great job for the Carolina Panthers."

He could really be a guy Gettleman brings in. Phillips is an UFA and he's currently injured. NYG still has Rolle and Stevie Brown, so I can see Phillips testing the market.
My point being I don't think we'll have money to bring the guy in unless he wants to take a below market deal.

We have to wait and see what they do with cuts and restructuring before you can really make that statement.

I'm curious as to the length and size of his contract.
I kinda figured you for a size queen

Even if we cut and restructure a bunch of guys, I'm hard-pressed to see how we're going to be players in FA. We need to cut/restructure guys just to get under the cap itself. To talk about adding guys like Phillips, who while he has been injury prone, was a 1st round pick at S (and when healthy plays like it) seems a little bit out of the realm of reality. But hey, anything's possible in the NFL.

Gamble and a few others are getting the "BOOT". A couple others are going to have to restructure their contracts. I can see Gettleman bringing Phillips in on a 1yr contract. Vet DBs these days arent getting the contracts they once used to get. A lot of 1yr deal these days.

I am just waiting to see what a "Good" Cap Manager can do with our contracts before I either get my hopes up or think FA is a lost cause this year.
