I've never thought the whole time that we would be going with Beane, as perviously stated: why would we bring someone in to do a GM search if we were just going to hire from within? He'll probably report that Brandon Beane was the second choice.
if it doesn't smell right, it probably isn't.
twas the reason I had my fun with it.

I have my doubts.
Gettleman is a true "football guy". I'd expect that to be what he'd want in a successor.
Very true. Very true.
We also don't know what was talked about behind closed doors, I'm only speculating but who knows.
It's a great Hire regardless. Who ever he picks will be our heir and if he learns form this man, we'll have a good to great GM. At least one that knows how to manage a Cap.

abrams?
not realistic, but i'd take an abrams protoge. apparently he's been grooming people to do what he does every year.
The scenario I pondered was whether the Giants might offer Marc Ross a promotion because of his getting so many interviews. If they made him the Assistant GM and moved Abrams out, then I'd happily take Abrams as our cap guy.

This is an excellent hire, Ross was the "sexy" candidate but the longer this process went and the more I read the more I wanted Gettleman - he seemed like the most qualified candidate by a long shot.
but the age though....only downfall

I've pretty much wanted either Ross or Gettleman the entire time, and either one was going to be a win for us so yeahThis is an excellent hire, Ross was the "sexy" candidate but the longer this process went and the more I read the more I wanted Gettleman - he seemed like the most qualified candidate by a long shot.

but the age though....
Doesn't matter at all. The guy is barely over 60.
What are you, 12?

Now all he's got to do is restrucuture some if our stars, cut Nakamura, get us under the cap, draft well, and then we'll be golden.

Makes me wonder if perhaps Beane was the guy telling people that he was a candidate.

Cool, I'm only on here for entertainment purposes and to read Mr. Scot posts(it's a bit stalkerish but the dude always has good info). To be fair, the purposelessness in whatever you post amuses the rest of us
