This isn't college basketball where you groom a bunch of kids. This isn't Little League. This isn't college football with red shirts. This is the NFL. You play to win from the moment you start. He gets one season to improve. If he fails, does that mean he should be fired? Nope. But he doesn't get time to build something. That's not how it works anymore.

This will be a joke next year. All the avalanche needs is a little push.

Next year is a throwaway year- Rivera will continue to fail and Gettleman will get "his" coach. Then unless things are going absolutely terribly that's a certain 3 additional years there before the heat begins to rise.

You see, Aggie Lean, this is the kind of statement that I was talking about.

On the Huddle?

A couple of winning seasons off the bat= 5 years.
A couple of playoff berths off the bat= 7 years.
A Super Bowl win in the first 3 years= as long as he wants & a statue.
Multiple Super Bowls in the first 5 years= Renaming BoA to Gettlemen Field.
0-3 out of the gate next year = Late Oct of 2013.

In a way, he has already turned things around.

First time in over a decade the front office isn't lead by....well, you know, I don't want to say it.

This is more what I was referring to...I know Jerry will give him at least several years to make things happen. It's a business things take time.

I'm talking about us as a fan base...what kind of things will turn us on him like we did Hurney. A bad record next year probably wont do it. What will?

Me personally I'd love to see him get us cap compliant in the next two years or so...and begin building a new core. I'd like to see him strengthen the positions hurney never could...WR, DT, S, CB. And I'd like most of all to see some kind of plan...something that we haven't seen in a while, really since the early years of fox ball. We all knew that we'd have great lines and not take chances in free agency. May not have been exciting but it got us to the Super Bowl.

Well we gave a sports journalist like 11 years so I figure we can give an actual football guy at least 6 or 7.

Gettleman's biggest task is taking a hard look and trying to figure if Rivera is the right coach. It's his call from now on.

As negative as some of you are I can't help but wonder how you get through a day without commiting suicide.

You do realize, don't you, that we can be pessimistic about RR and be optimistic about other things.

And I'd like most of all to see some kind of plan...something that we haven't seen in a while, really since the early years of fox ball. We all knew that we'd have great lines and not take chances in free agency. May not have been exciting but it got us to the Super Bowl.

That Super Bowl team was loaded with FA's.

I would say he gets a bye for his first year so as to fix the things Hurney left him, second year he needs to show vast improvement to show us he is on the right path, third year we need to make the playoffs or there had better be good reason why we did not.

He's the GM for Fuggs sake...and a real GM for that, not a sports writer...he's got as long as he wants, who give a fugg what you kids think.
