Mike Garafolo confirmed that both Gettleman and Ross knew Rivera was safe when they agreed to interview and neither saw it as a negative or a red flag.

Not right now he doesn't. Giving Rivera a shot going forward was a job pre-req.

Now if we don't make the play-offs next year (or start out 2-8 per Rivera's norm) I'm pretty positive Gettleman will have the authority to clean house.

Next year is just a throwaway year with a lame-duck head coach. This gives Gettleman a full year to get a grasp on the roster and what kind of coach we need to hire next year when we inevitably do so.
