The HC typically hires his own staff. Who knows if he has somebody in his ear on this one, though.

Wouldn't be surprised if the front office was monitoring this closely. They could easily push for someone they'd hire as interim HC if we falter early.
Not to mention Rivera would be doing the team a disservice if he didn't hire the best man for the job.
