Panthers Insider
Craft says he took the time to meet every single member of the team's staff.
Rivera describes him as "very direct and forthright".

lol Rivera got a tongue lashing.
He said in the presser that "Ron would tell you I'm pretty direct".
I get the definite impression he's given him a "here's where you stand" speech.

I think eventually he'll make some changes, but I don't really blame him for wanting to know who he's working with first.

Hurney = Gettleman?
Sure! Just strip away the two Lombardi trophies and the useful 2nd-7th round draft picks and UDFAs that the Giants acquired with his help.

I feel honored that we will someday have the privilege to hate this fine man.

Seems like a we found a great guy to blame all of our future failures on.
I feel honored that we will someday have the privilege to hate this fine man.
Sounds just like Rivera.

Asked to self-describe, emphasized being "very direct" and said "Ron would agree with me on that" which makes me think he might have told Rivera some things he might not have wanted to hear, but may have needed to.
Obviously I loved what he said about "winning games with big men"
I get the feeling that his age was a plus--he has the same sense of desperation JR has.
He mentioned the components of winning football games, (in addition to your "big men" quote): QB, TD makers, Pass rush.
Gettlemen said that we have pieces. That is right. Marty hoped these pieces would win for you if you paid them enough. Thank Marty for our situation at DE, QB, C, LB and TE. Blame him for problems at RB (cap), CB, DT, RG, WR and S (bad drafting or neglect).
Marty paid top dollar to reward our free agents and went bottom fishing for others. Gettlemen seems to have an expertise in free agency. He mentioned the flat cap and one-year contracts-no long term committments for quick fixes (see Hurney, 2010-2012). He seems to understand the market. He does not want to overpay. Marty thought he had to overpay to keep players here.
Rosters are liquid. You check the waiver wire and take players from other teams' practice squads. If you are not building a program from the bottom up, you are not building a program.
----Yes, he said that. Great to hear from a fan of a team with little depth and the biggest IR in the league for several years running.

He may be older, but he is every bit as eager to really make a mark as a young hot shot. Maybe even moreso. This man has accomplished more than most do in his career, and now wants to cement a legacy. JR and Danny gave him that opportunity when nobody else would.
If he fails as a GM, it will not be from lack of preparation, competence or hard work. He's gonna bust his ass to prove himself and I hope we'll all look back on today and say, best hire JR has ever made.
