First of all, this article is bullshit to sell this to us better. "no no we have to pay this so after richardson sells the team the new owner won't want to move them to LA." If that were so important to him he could cut a check. Don't buy this for a second.

Regarding succession, keep in mind that there are other owners of this team, some of them with very deep pockets. I would be very surprised that if there's another majority owner, it didn't come from inside the group already owning the team.

The other, fun possibility is that someone with ties to the NFL buys in. The Panthers have been very successful within league politics bringing out their former player/owner, and richardson really love him the ties to the North East.

Unless Brad Johnson has become a millionaire and I didn't notice, there aren't really any other NC based players in a position to buy the team. CURTIS MARTIN ON THE OTHER HAND....

For some reason I thought you lived in Atlanta.

Any other Carolina big wigs you think would step up to the plate at that point?

Jordan is made of money.

Jordan has already made the mistake of purchasing a team and running it into the ground. I don't think wants to be involved with another one, especially in a sport where he means nothing. Remember, part of the reason Jordan got the Bobcats was because of who he was. Larry Bird actually had a functioning ownership group assembled, but Jordan just smiled and got the bid.

Not only did he create arguably the worst sports team in American history, but he means nothing as a football player. It'd be a hard sell to say "yeah i couldn't do it in the sport I was best at, but I bet I could figure out a different one."

Jordan tried to be a GM too. He couldn't do that. It could be worse, at least the Bobcats are young. Cleveland has been around for years and still haven't won poo.

Agreed. Similar to his wanting to own a baseball franchise.

I think I have a solution.

1. Phil Knight buys the team.

2. Hires Chip Kelly.

3. ??????

4. Superbowl.

He should just sell the team now and stay on as the ever lovable janitor that doles out wisdom and advice.

I wish Jerry could somehow sell the team to the public like Green Bay. It's impossible now thought because it's against NFL rules (and maybe state law).

But I would pay quite a bit to own a small, small portion of the team even if i never got any "return" on it. I'd feel like it was my team even more. I'd frame that 1 stock share and put it over my fireplace.

I've alwasy said Jerry dying is the biggest thing that scares me as a Panther fan becuase despite what people think about him we could really end up with a bad owner and really become a Begals or Jets team.

Talks of a state tax in the future too.
http://www.foxcharlo...-187063291.html
"The Panthers team also plans to ask the state for additional renovation money. The total cost of the stadium deal could top $200 million."

I am not opposed. There are a ton of bandwagon and transplant fans across the state, and maybe they'd finally embrace the team if they have to help pay for it. I'd like to see them ask SC for some money too.

I pray that our next owner is someone not from NC. The whole "it must be a local" philosophy is a big reason Charlotte sports sucks. We keep giving our trust to local big wigs who care more about making money off their people than giving them a winner. Keeping it in the family has only led to losing.

I hope Jerry doesn't die for a really long time so we won't have to deal with this. I really don't know what I'd do if the team I've loved since the 5th grade suddenly moved to a new city.
