Don't forget that the Giants traded for Plaxico. It's not typical FA, but still big. I don't think that a team that has a pretty good core can sign big free agents. Tampa can because they don't have a lot of talent and lot of players in their first 3 years (cheap players). If you have a good mixture of vets, the middle and young talent, you can't sign big name FA. Look at the Eagles, won the Free agency and accomplished nothing.

No manager with any competency is going to come into an existing organization and publicly deride the staff. You have to get them all working with you right off the bat in spite of what may happen in the future. For all we know, he may hate Rivera and our whole coaching staff.

The Giants did not trade for plaxico they signed him as a free agent after Pitsburgh did not even offer him a contract. They signed him to a 6 year 25 mil contract.
