top dawg

If a sure-fire WR1 is not available after our first 2 picks, should we wait? Presuming we go Line with 1 and 2

i was complaining about fox/hurney ignoring WR even before then. aside from that one hit wonder colbert he really hadn't done anything at WR to show he took it seriously.

i mean i guess there was keyshawn, but even then he was essentially a has been with very little left in the tank.

looking at who our WR coach was back then, it's not surprising that we didn't do any developing of WRs at all. i mean we had a guy as WR coach that was old enough to be smitty's great grandfather.

this team doesn't have a history of taking WRs seriously, esp. since the early 2000's. the only time we really paid attention to it was fox's powerless year.

I disagree with this. Furney drafted 7 wr (Colbert, Jarret, Carter, Robinson, and many more) then they brought in FA wr (Hackett, Keyshawn, Washington, and brought back Moose) . So they tried to fix this it just hasn't worked out.

I completely agree!

I hope Gettleman will change this culture.

Being a NYG staff, it seems like they know the the skill players like receivers are important. Drafting/finding guys like Nicks, Cruz, Jernigan, Randle, Manningham, Steve Smith and Barden.

barden is only good against us, but still the point is clear. they built the team riding the wave of the increasingly pass heavy NFL.

fox/hurney fought against it. i blame fox as much as hurney for this team's lack of progress in the passing game. that's why it should have been that both were released at the same time. instead hurney became "mr. yessir" and was able to keep the job.

there is so much about the culture that needs to be changed and i hope/believe that gettleman is the guy to do it.

I honestly (at least from what I've seen right now) do not see a "sure fire number one WR" and I wouldn't take one in the first round (that could change from here to April though).... As for Smitty having "one more beastly year" I think he has 3-4 more solid years he might not be able to put up prime Smitty numbers but he will not digress as fast as you think.

I'd love to get Amari Cooper (Alabama) in two years

I said I believe Smitty has at least one more beastly year. I am not one of these Smitty-is-falling-off-a-cliff people, though we have to be realistic in this situation. 89 is not gonna last forever. Do I think he can still be an integral part of any NFL offense for a few more years? I won't be the one betting against him.

I like to ask some Question to you WR people.

1. Do you really think there is a Wr in this draft that we can get at 14 or in the 2nd round that day 1 can replace Smith? If not it's a wasted pick.

Unless you're getting a Megatron, AJ Green, A Johnson, Dez Bryant, or Julio Jones. It's not worth drafting a Wr for this team in the 1st round. When we have bigger needs at DT, Oline, and CB.

My bad I misunderstood you...

I'd love to get this guy as a future number one when ever he's draft eligible

We need all those positions equally..there are a few Wrs in this draft who I think can be number ones or 1-A..where a Lafell is like a 2-B..

Allen, Williams(depending on combine) can be number 1s.. Austin, Hopkins, Patterson, can be no 2's and who ever thought Smitty would be anything more than a slot guy? I did not even mention the Tenn guys or Louisiana Tech guy..not a draft that we can afford not come away with a choice WR that fits the system perfectly.

I think we can get one who we can groom into our future no.1. Not one who can come out and give 1k his rookie season but one who can give probably around 500-800yds and 4-5 tds.

I can see Keenan, Hunter, Twill, Hopkins and Rogers hitting a 500yd season in this offense with Cam, Smitty and Olsen. That's just what I think

Cooper will be a Top5 pick. People are already saying he's better than when Green was at UGA

and many more? as in 3?

when were they drafted? how many were early picks? aside from the guys picked up in '10-'11 hurney had drafted exactly 2 WRs prior to the 3rd round (colbert and jarrett) and rhyne robinson was the only other one drafted before the 5th round. that isn't showing any kind of seriousness about the WR position at all.

and when the list of FAs that you can mention is limited to "Hackett, Keyshawn, Washington, and brought back Moose" that in itself is pretty sad.

the passing game wasn't taken seriously at all. not by the GM. not by the coach.
