He was garbage in Tampa, garbage in Bama, what makes anybody think he's going to be even decent in Carolina?

Another losing season, here we come.

13 years

Take a look at where Shula landed after Tampa Bay, then ask yourself if not for his last name would he have had an NFL job at all?

JR seems to be setting things up to make it easy to clean house next year if he needs too.

Can't see us winning much if our owner's still more interested in hedging bets than assembling the best squad possible.

Hoping he has learned a bit over the last 12-13 years

As has been said before, not many great guys want to come aboard a potentially sinking ship. Shula might be a stop gap and he will go with Rivera and McDermott if the season sucks, at the expense again of the fans.

So Shula grew up in an NFL household, played in the NFL for a year, then spent 8 years on NFL coaching staffs before landing his OC gig, where he was awful for four years. SInce then he's also been awful as a head coach in college.

But apparently he's learned something new and different and special from Chud that will make him into a great OC now that he's the official hire. Do I have that right?

That's the gist of it. failure + time = success.

Once Shula is snatched off our staff in a year or two for a HC gig, Jeff Davidson will have ripened into an A+ offensive mind in case we want to look at someone familiar.

There used to be these things called newspapers....they had articles.

As Mark Twain once said, "If you don't read the newspaper you are uninformed, if you read the newspaper you are misinformed."

13 years ago, Steve Smith was a nobody. Give em a chance..

I guess breaking the record for yards per catch in a season and being named to two All-Conference teams is considered being a "nobody"...

that was a long time ago. This is a good hire because things won't drastically change from the current system.

It sucks that we only had Shula and Shurmur to choose from.

Scary thought for me is that Rivera gets fired midseason and we have to promote from within for an interim coach. Interim coach finishes 6-2, and we are now seriously considering giving them the position permanently.

That's the beauty of the hire(s).

We (Rivera) decided against hiring anyone with any actual experience as an assistant HC/HC in the NFL. Except Skipper, who nobody is going to promote.

Rivera has all of the next season.

Why all the we are going to have to fire Rivera mid season??? Has Richardson ever fired a coach midseason?? Even when they went 1-15??
