Do your best to put a positive spin on Shula's promotion

Pound the ball. Pound the ball. Play action.
Beats read option, read option, 19 second developing WR routes with a shitty OLine.

I might be one of the few who doesn't hate this hire. We'll see. We all hated Chud's read option mania, so this will keep all the things we liked about Chud's play book, but hopefully scale back all the things we hated.

That offense you call "read option, read option, 19 second developing WR routes with a shitty OLine" was top 10 in both 2011 and 2012 according to football outsiders
so anything Shula's coming up with doesn't beat it unless the Panthers offense sustains that production with the Shula hire.

That is true. I think most folks hope that Shula's offense is half as creative as Chud's was. Scoring points, effective in the redzone, all things Chud's offense was good at doing.

Chud was too cute, too often. His biggest flaw.

I expect the read option to be dramatically, and be use max of 5 times. I expect to see a more balanced offense and still use Cam's big arm. If you look at the offense of the end of the season, it was more conservative. More tight-end oriented, more short and medium passing. Long drives over 5 or 8 minutes. I think with a more conservative offense than Chud's and still taking shots when needed, the team will be in the playoffs.
The only thing that I wonder about is Shula's game planning. Can he exploit the opponent's weaknesses? Can he avoid being to predictable? (Chud couldn't in the beginning of the season).

- He's not Jeff Davidson
- We have Cam Newton under center and a stable of good running backs
- The defense should be good enough that the Panthers won't need a top 10 offense to win.
- We have Cam Newton
- He likes running the ball

Here are a few positive thoughts...
All that, and we have Cam Newton. So the offense, while it could have been unstoppable, should still be at least good.

So you're saying the positives are
-at least he's not the most dismal hire in our history
-at least we have talented people ON the field
-at least we don't have to be elite
-likes running the ball? What? That would have been a sweet positive thirty years ago. We're trying to build an elite team not one that just gets by.
This is all just so depressing

Some guys here who have never seen a game called by him say he is awesome. That's enough for me!
I was putting on a positive spin. I don't understand why Jackson wasn't chosen. The only reason could be that Rivera didn't want someone that wasn't 'loyal'. Hue Jackson could take his job. Jackson was the most qualified. But maybe Shula learns some lessons and is improved as a playcaller.

Better than Shurmur.
He took my answer.
But I'll add if Cam is comfortable with it; that's good enough for me

His QB in Tampa was Shaun king. No offense to King but he was no Cam
