Jarrett was the #1 wr at USC. How did that work out?

Patterson at 14 is a big reach for a team with bigger problems at DT, O-line, and Cb.

But Adams wasn't the number 1 in Arkansas, I think that Smith was in college. I think that WR coaching could improve, but I don't see Adams as nr 1 or 2 receiver. More like a number 3 like he was in Arkansas. I don't think that you really need a nr 1 receiver if you have a few good nr 2 receivers and 2 good TE's. I think that without forcing everything to Smith like they did in the beginning of the year, the offense works better. But in the draft, you have a receiver like Cobi Hamilton that could a nr 1 receiver, and the good thing is that he'll be available in the second round.

As I said earlier I don't have a problem going that way but most guys need time to develop, I want someone at 14 who can contribute day 1. I am fine picking someone else up but think that we could go a different direction at 1 this year given our needs.

if he's the BPA, we take him.

As raw as Patterson is, He has julio jones potential. Its just hard taking a "project" with the 14th pick.

Keenan Allen will be a legit#1 in the NFL. CP will be Randy Moss or Freddie Mitchell, boom or bust.

I agree Keenan Allen is the safe pick WR, CP is the risky pick.

True, but we needed a franchise QB desperately, we don't need a franchise WR des.....fug.

I love how people used Cam as a reason to take a raw wr. Some scouts had Cam rated very high as well. Show me a scout that has Patterson as a top 15 pick.

There are a number of guys who are projected anywhere from the 1st to 3rd rounds. I don't think any receiver would be BPA at 14. Unless there was a run on them, if I wanted to draft a receiver first I would trade down to get back our third and pick from a number of guys. There are guys at other positions that may be one of the best at their position who will be there at number 14 and are more compelling. Unless his stock improves a ton, Patterson could still be there in the 2nd or even the third. His size and speed are compelling but it will take him a year or two to learn to play wide receiver in the NFL.

I just trust Gettleman to make the right call. WR/OL/DT. We will get a very good player.

i've got no problem with a risky pick as long as these things are all there in spades:

high ceiling
solid work ethic
coachable
demonstrable growth
ambition to grow

from what i've seen in my limited reading on him, i think he fits that.

Why do people act like Keenan Allen is a snail? He isnt blazing fast but he is fast enough to be defenses. He is also fast enough to play in this offense and speed doesnt even matter if receivers cant fight defenders off the line scrimmage and route running. He also is a really good slot receiver, he would be a chain mover instantly, that matters a lot too. He also catches with his hands really well which is something CP isnt great at.
