Agreed, but that's assuming Shula is "sharp". And he hasn't been an OC or HC for a while.

Hopefully, he will be. However past experiences has shown he's been a not so great play caller. And who's to say what he'll do during a game, especially an important one??

Just look at the 'innovative', celebrated Chud for example, and all the bone head moves/plays he did this past season as an OC and play caller. I get your point though.

It is amazing that Shula has stayed employed every single year of his career considering how dumb some of you guys seem to think he is. Apparently all of these coaches are even less "sharp" for hiring him year in and year out, whether it is to be OC or as QB coach.

Nice Ray.

I think you should change your comparison to Brett Favre instead of Big Ben though.

Hoge had a good segment on NFL Matchup this morning about how the Falcons shut down the read-option last week with the play of the DE and making sure they held their outside contain. Wilson didn't run the ball once out of the option.

It works, but anything you do in the NFL will get figured out by defenses... they're too smart and too fast. You have to change it up.

Send a lead blocker to take out the DE and run the QB out anyway.

have to have a competent Oline to run it perfectly...

have to have a better OL anyway, but in its essence, the zone read is the same concept whether you're running the inside zone to the RB, outside zone, or any of the option plays.

doesn't need it anymore than any other offense.

Your so full of poo. They have had the Pistol on NCAA football for like 5 years. They have had it in college before the Dolphins were running the wildcat with Williams and Brown.

Could do, but that takes the option out of it, it would just become a designed QB keeper with a fake handoff...

That's what he showed this morning... the Seahawks had a lead blocker for the QB, but the DE stayed home and essentially forced the QB to take the handoff option.

How does that equate to him being and OC, especially considering no one else would have offered him a job, beside the Panthers?

The question is not, "will he be a successful OC"? He maybe; especially with Cam there.

But it's also fair to say, there was nothing in his past or current Resume (except for the Panthers maybe), that warranted him receiving this gig, over a Hue Jackson Per se. Wouldn't you agree?

I'm sorry that's the record as it stands, until proven otherwise. Hopefully, Shula will do well.

PS: I understand why they hired him. However, we also have to understand the other side as well.
