If you can take a cut and stay with a team while still making more than you're likely to get on the open market then you're a dumbass not to do it.

really the only chance we have of competing is relatable to how the Patriots filled their roster in the early 2000s. Here's an excerpt on it.

I should add that Gettleman has done this before

btw short version that excerpt says that while these signing bonuses are balls deep in the panthers' collective asses (for the next 2-3 years), the smart thing to do is to, at the very least, find inexpensive veteran free agents that could be a little older but are still reliable instead of giving significant playing time to Josh Norman, Jordan Pugh, Sione Fua, Terrell McClain, or any other guys that are late round rookies that have no idea what they're doing, and work on getting rid of signing bonus money as soon as possible at the same time (not restructuring everybody with a significant cap hit)

Beason has a huge deal. He isn't going to want to part with money and Carolina would be dumb to throw big cash at a man who hasn't been playing. Beason likely could try to call Carolina's bluff....see if they would cut him, hoping they would just keep on keepin on

hurney would cave. gettleman wouldn't mess around.

If I was a player I wouldn't take a pay cut. Screw that haha. The man in charge all these years handed out fat contracts to everyone. Why would I give mine back?

Some of guys are getting cut. Sorry bout it.

only thing is several of them wouldn't get near the money they would be getting here if they restructured. pride will get to a few, but enough would restructure that there wouldn't be a whole lot of turnover. i can see beason and gross restructuring and anderson and gamble walking. one of williams, stewart, and tolbert won't be here next year either.

one thing that sucks is we still have wharton, otah, and mare on the books.
