Pau Gasol to Charlotte Bobcats- rumor...

Oh don't get me wrong I am a fan of Paul Millsap... he's a very solid starter at PF. He gives you good offense with average rebounding and defense... but a max player he is not. He's a 15/8 guy at best with average defense. I'd throw something like 4/50 at him at most. He's a solid piece, but realistically he is a #3 or #4 option on a good team.

right....but other big market teams like the Lakers will offer him 4/50. In order to get him into Charlotte, I think we'll have to overpay. 2 or 3 years from now when it all comes together, and we're contenders

for a conference crown, it should be easier to get FA's to Charlotte.

for now, I'm afraid we'll have to bite the bullet. But at least we can afford it.

I get the idea, though I'm not sure Milsap is the guy I would target because he is getting older. Not sure who we could realistically go after, since any bigs worth a damn are making bank once they hit the free agent market (see Lopez and Hibbert getting the max last year).

Long term I think its pretty clear that the team would be better off getting a high pick this year AND next year, but it will be tough convincing fans to get behind another shitty season next year and there will be pressure to make a splash

I thought Milsap was fairly young. If we can get a great player in the draft this year, and a great

player in FA, we could be decent next year, perhaps mid-draft range. We have to give up a first

rounder in the next 4 years, but we get 2 extra. Maybe we could throw in one of those with our

first next year to move up and get another key piece without having to lose so many games.

I'm in for the long haul, and I like what Cho has done a lot. Maybe I'm just a little impatient. lol.

I liked the idea yesterday. Now I don't. I want a center.

I'm sorry, and not to be brash, but that's backwards thinking. You can't just go around throwing large amounts of money (let alone max contracts) to non all-stars. We cannot afford it... no team can. I'll just say that I'll be extremely disappointed if the Bobcats offer Millsap max money, but thankfully Cho wouldn't do something like that (neither would any GM) lol.

Milsap to a Max contract would be equilivant to Antwan Jamison getting the Max and Jamison was a better player.

I agree no Max contract unless there is a need and fit.

Remember guys, Lakers always get the best end of any deal and Ben Gordon and a pick isn't going to cut it.

Love to see it happen!

but please a 2nd rounder only. Id hate to see a 1st rounder in the mix.

LA needs a shooter so bad that really they should just give up Gasol straight up for Gordon.

Id try to see if I could pack Mullens with it.

no, you guys are right, I overspoke. I thought Milsap was more highly regarded than that.

I shouldn't have said max. But we are going to have to overpay a player who is sought after

by marquee teams to get him to Charlotte, whoever that may be.

As far as backward thinking, I'm thinking just the opposite. We'll need to overpay for someone

to join our young drafter nucleus to make us contenders. Once we become contenders,

then we'll be on a more balanced level in the future to get FA's with other teams.

So the logic in this trade idea is to trade Gasol for Gordon so Gordon could sit on the bench behind Kobe?

Well I agree that we will have to overpay to land big time free agents (at least for now), but you did say Millsap for the max so that's why I was calling it backwards thinking. We'll have to overpay to get a guy like Millsap, but if a team offers him 4/40, then I wouldn't offer him more than 4/50. Basically, yeah we'll need to overpay some, but not to an extent where the guy isn't worth the contract.

Lakers just need to trade everyone except Kobe and EZ. I hate that team so much. Zero chemistry :(
