I think the Saints are going 3-4 because the looks are known to confuse quarterbacks presnap reads. The falcons for one have had problems against the 3-4 when it mattered. Plus, we have a quarterback heavy division so switching to the 3-4 makes sense when they have to purge most of their roster anyways.

I knew I was missing somebody. Gracias.

So...nothing too conclusive, IMO. I think the 3-4 would be more susceptible to the power run game, though. If we get that going next year, the Saints will be easy pickens.

4-3 or 3-4, it won't matter. the saints just suck at stopping the run.

It's gonna become an interesting discussion here given that the Saints are reportedly looking at Romeo Crennel and Eric Mangini as DC options.

Rivera knows all about the 3-4, so that means nothing

Either of those guys would be, good hires for them. They'd still need OLBs for passrush though.

Let me tell you this, the Aints aren't switching to a 34 to just beat Cam twice a year.

Maybe it's not Cam. Maybe the question should ask "how good is our OLINE vs 34 compare to 43?"

oh i know that. i saw a comment some saints fan made that they were switching to a 34 because of cam and the other QBs in the NFCS, but i remembered that he has done well against them and it just got me wondering about how well he does.

They are going to a 3-4 because their 4-3 was never that great and it was terrible last fall. They have a lot of pressure to fix it and changing things up to see if you can get better results makes sense. Doesn't mean it will work but it makes sense. Wonder how much they have for free agents and in dead cap space by releasing veterans who don't fit the scheme.

24/37, 422 YDS, 2 TD, 1 INT - Ari

I think our OLINE has more at blame facing 34 than does Cam

yeah, the reason for changing isn't all that important to me. it will be interesting to see what kind of finagling they'll have to do to make it happen. they've got more of a cap mess than we do.

I look at PFR rayzor and here is Cam's average against 3-4 D in 8 games played, with a 4-4 record.

18.9 passes completed
31.1 passes attempted
269.5 yards passing
60.64% completions
1.63 TD
.63 INT
97.7 Rating

7.5 Rush Attempts
40.38 Rushing Yards
.5 Rushing TD

Wouldn't surprise me if it's for the sake of image as much as anything.

Gotta do something after you just fielded the worst defense in history, right?

Add in that Payton's probably arrogant enough to believe he could win games even if the Saints only sent six defenders out on the field, so he probably isn't tied to a particular system.
