Realistically there is no way the cats can trade for Pekovic or Gortat without giving up a 1st round pick. Just doesnt make sense, both are legit centers on good contracts

I agree- I edited to throw in there the Portland pick

On second thought, I may give a pick for Pekovic.

I've seen him mentioned in trade threads/rumors throughout the year, but why are they supposedly dangling him?

I can see Gortat coming for Diop without a first becuse they get a total of $14 mil off the books and can make a run at a big time player in the offseason. The Cats are usually good at getting a first round pick so I could see the Suns giving up a first round pick in this draft since it's pretty weak.

Also Derrick Williams has a better game for the small forward position. His body size fits a small forward position and he is a piss poor rebounder so the small forward position is much more to Williams liking.

I love CP8789's deal... BUT, I think Williams still has a lot of potential at the 4 and I don't see that interfering with MKG's development. Add to that, Pekovic is a legitimate big man. He is basically Gortat only younger. If we could swing a deal for Williams and Pekovic without giving up a pick, I'm all over that.

Is there anyone who would want Diap's talent and contract?

Diop being an expiring means he's actually worth something.

Diop has a huge expiring contract, if you couple that with Gortat's contract then the Suns free up over $15 mil in cap space. A lot of you don't realize that the majority of trades in the NBA are cap reasons. (i.e. Rudy Gay could probably have fetched more than what he did but for cap reasons, Memphis wanted expiring contracts and cap room.)

Gortat averages 11 pts 9 reb 2 blocks while making $7mil for the next 2 seasons. He would probably get about $3-4 mil / year more on the open market, he has more value than an expiring contract. And unless Diop's contract is not guaranteed, Phoenix would only save $7 million on the trade.

Plus you think they are giving up a pick? That would be like the cats trading Ramon Sessions' 2 year $10 mil contract for an expiring deal and throwing in the Portland pick. Doesnt make sense, if you are giving up a 1st rounder to shed salary you at least have to trade someone with a bad contract
