Jonathan Cyprien, SS - FIU, making a push for the second round

30 posts in this topic

I don't have time to write anything up on Cyprien right now, but it's crazy how fast this guy has flown up boards ever since the senior bowl. Most scouts have him as high as the #2 safety in the draft, and worthy of a 2nd round pick.

I think I've seen his name mentioned on here once or twice but as like a 5th round pick, so now that he is starting to become noticed I figure we needed a thread. I'll try and get some stuff a little but later, feel free to add anything.

Yea I think he has risen to the point that we would have to spend a 2nd round pick on him and I think we can get better value out of drafting a safety in the 4th or 5th round.

He was really impressive at the senior bowl. Took good angles on tackles, showed some coverage skills and was said to be one of the leaders throughout the week at the senior bowl.

From the clips ive seen of him on youtube, he plays close to the line and does a great job at it. Very good against the run. Very intriguing prospect, definitely a possibility.

Interesting I wonder who will fall because of all these "risers"? it will be an interesting draft

Solid, physical guy who can cover TEs or play as the extra guy in the box. Pretty sure we talked to him at the senior bowl too

Elam, Jefferson, Reid.

Do you see a way for us to trade into the third and get one of them?

I saw an article comparing him to Louis Delmas on the lions (cuz I think they both came from FIU and delmas was picked in the second round, if I'm not mistaken), I would love the pick in the second honestly, and he already visited with the panthers at least once I think, all for it!

EDIT: nevermind, delmas went to western Michigan, my bad

    • Could be. Hope to be.  I see the big time potential in both. In my opinion-The biggest obstical I see (not only with them but in many young players) is their self confidence. Taking it from "flashing" to "breaking out" or "to the next level" is an imaginary obstacle that stands in the way of a lot of players with potential. To get over the hump, it can take a play, a game or a season to get their mind right with the confidence that they can perform at another level.  KB and Funch have good coaching and all the skills necessary to be the guy, but in the end, they are human too. Most won't admit but the majority of people perform in a "fake it till you make it" environment so to speak.   Lack of confidence or conversely, proving to yourself you can do it, is not only important to the average Joe like you and I but to them as well.  Some guys get over the hump and exceed their own expectations enough to where it becomes standard practice. Others never quite get that bit of confidence or courage to take it one step above their self imposed ceiling.  Im optimistic so I think these two guys can break through. We will certainly have a good read on their direction this season.  PS- Did I use enough quotations?
