Feel free to throw ancient and modern theories out there about drugs in general, your experiences, substance usage throughout time and how it affects our state of being. Or like I said, any half baked ideas.

i like turtles
that's not old or anything
Anyhoo, I do think it's possible drugs played a large role in the development of civilization. When you consider the states that people can be put in by mere plants and roots anywhere from the Amazon jungle to India in ancient times (see: sacred plants of the Vedas) I think its clear one of the most consistent and fundamental parts of society has been the testing and usage of materials that alter perception. Its not even some out there idea and has been a part of nearly every culture.
I think its highly more likely that they had an effect on how we evolved and developed many of our batsh*t crazy ideas about how the world began and where we came from.

On a side note, I was bored one day so I decided I'd use the great and awesome internetz and teach myself how to make MDMA (Ecstasy). It's pretty tricky although not nearly as hard as making meth. Chemistry is fun huh, stay in school kids.
