Just when you think that you have heard it all, along comes an excuse that completely boggles the mind.

Tomorrow, a dog, name unknown, will be put to death at an overcrowded animal control in Jackson, Tenn., after his owner surrendered him there because he believes that his dog is "gay."

According to the prior owner, the dog was seen "hunched over," another male dog, therefore, in this owner's mind, the dog must be gay.

The former owner apparently does not know that "hunched over, aka humping behavior" is typically a sign of dominance in dogs, rather than something to signify a dog's sexual orientation.

But, on the other hand, even if it did indicate sexual orientation, does it warrant turning one's dog over to an extremely crowded, sadly "high kill," animal control facility?

Should it matter? Update! Click here for important update as of Thursday, 1/31/13 http://www.examiner.com/article/tennessee-dog-dies-thursday-because-he-is-gay?CID=obinsite

One of my neighbors had 2 dogs in a pen growing up. I was like 10. I walked down one day and he explained that one of the dogs was gay because it was trying to hump the other boy dog.

So he shot it in the head.

Not in front of me thankfully.

I thought I read that one of the workers adopted it.

If the person who brought it in really did so for that reason said person's ignorance makes me truly sad for them.

There is an update link at the bottom of the OP that indicates the dog was adopted. Reportedly the original owner witnessed the dog humping another male dog and that resulted in the dog being taken to the pound.

Yeah I know that was what was reported and probably what the guy said. However, I question whether someone really took it in for that reason as it is just.... really really ignorant about the nature of dogs.
