i appreciate what you're saying... but frankly even websters backs me up.

it literally says it's used facetiously in the dictionary. it also acknowledges the archaic definitions separately. How it's used... i can't speak to... but as far as the literal definition of the word... it's really not offensive.

he wasn't using it facetiously. plus they got the archaic version and the modern version backwards so..

used to mean young woman, then it meant maid or something, now it means *****.

of course I guess you can agree with stirs and say the N word isn't offensive either because it used to not be or it's spanish or whatever.

I'll let y'all decide what makes the most sense

"She is a bit of a wench, isn't she?"

she is a bit of a young lady

she is a bit of a maid servant

she is a bit of a slutwhorebitchskank

In the context of Mr Scots original post, I would equate wench with idiot.

He certainly wasn't calling her a slut or wh*re, that makes zero sense.

Both are archaic... The meaning you cite is from the 14th century...So here you are, literally arguing with a dictionary... Putting words in scot's mouth and building a strawman while comparing me to stirs and some argument about the word n*gger (which is effectively a godwin 'round here.) I appreciate and understand your opinion on this and you are certainly entitled to your feelings but unless you have an etymology degree... Well, we're just going to have to agree to disagree.

would someone promote ncbiscuit to mod or something?

I realize he lost an election to a muslim but the constant kowtowing is pathetic.

I quoted what he said almost verbatim. Which one makes the most sense?

Sometimes the Godwin comparison is valid, you know that right? Both of you feel that if the word originated from something non-offensive, well then it's all cool then.

Also, you know dictionaries aren't the end-all be-all right? Especially when I can just cite a different dictionary that says what I agree with more.

Not even the managment themselves defend their policies as much as you seem to.

Although I am still shocked the majority of posters didn't fall for the boobies gimmick I thought fer sure you'd win.
