With Gettleman being a former pro personnel guy, I think we'll be fairly active in free agency as bargain shoppers. Kenny Phillips (if healthy) and Sammie Lee Hill are a few players that I think we could/should make a run at that wouldn't break the bank.

Also keep an eye on Sean Locklear as another potential addition. He was one of Gettleman's FA gems last year with the Giants that he talked about in his introduction press conference.

I'm torn on whether to expect much or not.

Heart says yes, but head looks at the cap and says no.

Will have to see what cap moves we make between now and March 12th.

I agree but these things always seem to work themselves out. We know for a fact that we have to be under the cap before the start of FA, so there will be some money to spend. It may be tough to make any big, big moves but free agency is about timing and there are some quality players that can really help this team and won't break the bank.

Antoine Cason is another guy I'd like to take look at. He's a CB with a lot of ability, and relatively young, and had his best years under Rivera and DB coach Steve Wilks in San Diego. He's struggled under the new defensive coaching staff and may not be re-signed. He may come in on a 1-year 'prove yourself' contract.

silly rule anyway. even sillier to expect teams to abide by it.

I hope our first signing weighs in the neighborhood 325 lbs and has a nasty streak. OL or DL

I wonder if JR still wakes up at night screaming Sean Gilbert's name.

Easily fixed with cutting several players. and maybe restructuring one or two.

At this point, Gamble has become expendable. Jordan Gross, even though he's our good LT, he's regressed and isn't getting younger. Time to cut ties with him too. Beason, he's borderline expendable. I'd like to see him get traded to NYG for a player or a draft pick.

Beason could re-structure to help get under the cap in March but that's really the only way he could help us. Trading or cutting him prior to June 1 hurts our cap not helps it.

48.7% of the $51,338,000 contract he signed in 2011 was guaranteed.
How much more you want to guarantee him with his injury status?

To follow on the Beason thing, his cap hit would be 15.75 million if cut or traded, his current cap hit for this upcoming season is 9.5, so it would cost the team about 6 million on this years cap to cut him, putting it around 19-20 million. The team could June 1st cut him, but then that doesn't help the team to get under the cap by the deadline. Team has the same issue with Williams as that it will cost the team to cut him before June 1st.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating a re-structure, just pointing out that trading or cutting him will do us no good for the work we have to do on the cap for the upcoming March.

My gut feel is he is gone post June 1st. It would be too costly to re-structure him long term and I'm sure Jon still wants to play in the middle somewhere. We could let him go in March and declare him as one of our June 1 cuts (yes, you can do this with 2 players per year), but that is just a courtesy to the player as they still count against the cap as if they are still on your roster until June 1 rolls around.

Restructure Gross, trade Dwill or Stew, trade Beason or Anderson.

If we release Jon, it's almost guaranteed Falcons will sign him.

Gross being restructured and Gamble leaving are two common things that have and will continue to be mentioned.

It's hard to know what's gonna happen to Double Trouble. Maybe nothing, hell maybe they're both gone. I dunno.

Anderson could be expendable

Ron Edwards is actually under contract another season so we may clear space with him.

D'wan is a UFA I'd like to see come back (I think we all would)

Godfrey's contract is absurd

Bottom line: it will be f*cking interesting to see what Gettleman does
