Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) Monday made a joke comparing Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to a monkey.

“So Ahmadinejad wants to be first Iranian in space - wasn't he just there last week?” McCain said in a tweet that also linked to a story about Iran launching a monkey into space.

Edited: I was told this is racist and not funny. So dont anyone laugh.

Calling people monkeys is funny? Pretty sure it's racist.

I've not seen "monkey" used as an ethnic slur against Arabs (wouldn't make much sense).

As to the topic, I'd be all for sending Ahmadinejad into space.

Joked about it because Iran supposedly launched a monkey into space.

Comparing Ahmadinejad to the monkey was essentially a "you're a moron" statement.

(joke of opportunity; not necessarily a great one, but it was there)

Fair enough, but "monkey" makes no more sense as an ethnic insult there either.

McCain is knocking him for being off in the head, which I'd call a valid criticism.

Is calling heads of state, even our enemies, monkeys very statesmanly? I can only imagine if Biden or Obama said this the outrage conservatives would have.
